Onion (Allium cepa) DNA extraction: Perspective of scientific practices through laboratory practice

Resumo: | DNA represents the structural unit of life, being one of the best-known organic substances. DNA extraction has become a alternative to teaching-learning in Biology classes. In this sense, the objective of this work was to facilitate the learning of high school Biology students, based on an experimental activity involving the extraction of DNA from onions (Allium cepa). The activity was implemented in a practical class laboratory at IFPE-Campus Barreiros in two pedagogical moments. The first moment consisted of a practical class for extracting DNA from A. cepa, using everyday materials. In the second moment, students were invited to evaluate the activity through a questionnaire. From the analysis of the results, it was possible to verify that the proposed activity encouraged motivation, aroused curiosity and facilitated students learning. Furthermore, the evaluation of the activity by the students was considered stimulating by the authors. Finally, in addition to combining theory with practice, this work can be useful as reference material on the DNA molecule. |

La extracción de ADN se ha convertido en una alternativa de enseñanza-aprendizaje en las clases de Biología. En este sentido, el objetivo de este trabajo fue facilitar el aprendizaje de estudiantes de Biología, a partir de una actividad experimental que involucra la extracción de ADN de cebolla (Allium cepa). La actividad se implementó en el laboratorio de clases prácticas del IFPE-Campus Barreiros en dos momentos pedagógicos. El primer momento consistió en una clase práctica de extracción de DNA de A. cepa, utilizando materiales cotidianos. En el segundo momento, se invitó a los estudiantes a evaluar la actividad a través de un cuestionario. Del análisis de los resultados se pudo comprobar que la actividad propuesta fomentó la motivación, despertó la curiosidad y facilitó el aprendizaje de los estudiantes. Además, la evaluación de la actividad por los estudiantes fue considerada estimulante por los autores. Finalmente, además de combinar teoría con práctica, este trabajo puede resultar útil como material de referencia sobre la molécula de DNA.O DNA representa a unidade estrutural da vida, sendo uma das substâncias orgânicas mais conhecidas. A extração de DNA tornou-se uma alternativa ao ensino-aprendizagem nas aulas de Biologia. Neste sentido, o objetivo deste trabalho foi facilitar a aprendizagem dos alunos da disciplina de Biologia do Ensino Médio, a partir de uma atividade experimental envolvendo a extração de DNA de cebola (Allium cepa). A atividade foi implementada no laboratório de aulas práticas do IFPE-Campus Barreiros em dois momentos pedagógicos. O primeiro momento, consistiu em uma aula prática para a extração do DNA de A. cepa, usando materiais do cotidiano. No segundo momento, os estudantes foram convidados a avaliar a atividade através de um questionário. A partir da análise dos resultados, foi possível verificar que a atividade proposta incentivou a motivação, despertou à curiosidade e facilitou à aprendizagem dos educandos. Além disso, a avaliação da atividade pelos discentes foi considerada estimuladora pelos autores.
