Motivation and depression rates in wheelchair basketball athletes

Resumo: Objective: To evaluate the motivation for the practice of sports and levels of depression of athletes who are part of a wheelchair basketball team in a city in the interior of the state of Paraná. Methodology: For the evaluation of motivation, the Inventory of Motivation for Regular Physical Activity - IMPRAF 54 was used and for the depression indices, the Beck Depression scale was used. Eleven individuals were evaluated, wheelchair basketball athletes with different types of physical disabilities and experience in the sport. Results: As a result, it is observed that the motivation indices are related on a larger scale only in the aspects of health, pleasure and to minimize stress, the depression indices among athletes are low, a factor that is not determinant for a concern generalized about the wheelchair basketball team. Finals Considerations: The most relevant motivation index for athletes is the health aspect, while the least motivational within these aspects is that of competition. Depression rates show that a low level of depression occurs among athletes.

Metodología: Para la evaluación de la motivación, se utilizó el Inventario de motivación para la actividad física regular - IMPRAF 54 y para los índices de depresión, se usó la escala de depresión de Beck. Once personas fueron evaluadas, atletas de baloncesto en silla de ruedas con diferentes tipos de discapacidades físicas y experiencia en el deporte. Resultados: Como resultado, se observa que los índices de motivación están relacionados en una escala mayor solo en los aspectos de salud, placer y para minimizar el estrés, los índices de depresión entre los atletas son bajos, un factor que no es determinante para una preocupación generalizado sobre el equipo de baloncesto en silla de ruedas. Consideraciones Finales: El índice de motivación más relevante para los atletas es el aspecto de la salud, mientras que el menos motivador dentro de estos aspectos es el de la competencia. Las tasas de depresión muestran que se produce un bajo nivel de depresión entre los atletas.Objetivo: Avaliar a motivação para a prática de esportes e níveis de depressão de atletas integrantes de uma equipe de basquetebol em cadeira rodas de uma cidade do interior do estado do Paraná. Metodologia: Para a avaliação da motivação utilizou-se do Inventário de Motivação à Prática Regular de Atividade Física – IMPRAF 54 e para os índices de depressão utilizou-se a escala de Depressão de Beck. Foram avaliados 11 indivíduos, atletas de basquetebol em cadeira de rodas com diferentes tipos de deficiência física e tempo de experiência na modalidade. Resultados: Como resultados observa-se que os índices de motivação se relacionam em maior escala apenas nos aspectos de saúde, prazer e para minimizar o estresse, os índices de depressão entre os atletas encontram-se baixos, fator que não é determinante para um preocupação generalizada sobre o time de basquetebol em cadeira de rodas. Considerações Finais: O índice de motivação mais relevantes para os atletas é o aspecto da saúde, já o menos motivacional dentro destes aspectos é o da competição.
