Resumo: Objective: to investigate the use of aromatherapy to reduce Occupational Stress and the effect of this decrease in the care of Burnout Syndrome. Methods: systematic review of exploratory character and descriptive approach, with active search in the databases of PubMed, LILACS, Science Direct, Medline and SciELO. As criteria for selection of articles, which had the potential to incorporate the review, complete articles of research carried out with human beings were included, which included the descriptors “aromatherapy”, “oils, volatile” and “burnout”. Results: sample consisting of seven articles conducted between 2007 and 2021. These evaluated the use of aromatherapy to reduce occupational stress to deal with problems related to work activities, such as Burnout Syndrome. Of the surveys, 71.43% (n=5) studied health workers. With regard to the essential oil of choice, for the aromatic intervention, the use of lavender was the majority, appearing in 71.42% (n=5) of the studies. The oil administration route was concentrated in two ways: topical and inhaled. Conclusion: work environments with Occupational Stress and Burnout Syndrome indices should investigate psychosocial factors and physical symptoms associated with stressors, so that stress coping strategies can be employed. In this sense, the results of this review support the feasibility of using aromatherapy in the workplace, as a means of reducing occupational stress and caring for the Burnout Syndrome.
