Internationalization process of a company in the natural products sector of Rio Grande do Norte: A case study

Resumo: Currently, several factors drive the internationalization of companies; however, these same factors are permeated by potential risks such as physical and cultural barriers, in addition to the severe competition that exists in the world market. In this context, the present work analyzes and describes how the process of international insertion of a Potiguar company took place in the segment of nuts, dried fruits and oleaginous products with already 10 years’ experience with exports (MERCOSUR countries). The work has a descriptive approach, and an essentially qualitative nature, following the Case Study Methodology. Data collection took place through documentary analysis and structured and semi-structured interviews with the company's CEO. In the documentary analysis, we sought to raise the main theories on internationalization and foreign trade, as well as relevant data from the company and its target market. In the structured interviews, a questionnaire with a Likert-type scale was used in order to quantify subjective aspects of the entrepreneur's experience, based on the main constructs related to the internationalization of companies present in the specialized literature. Through the analysis of the data it was possible to observe that the company is well structured in the strategic, tactical and operational elements related to exports, presenting few structural or strategic gaps. The company has an active and gradual internationalization strategy, aimed at approaching culturally close markets and can serve as a model for other companies in the industry due to its export maturity. It was also possible to point out specific elements for improving the marketing strategies of the company's products and its digital transition strategy.

En este contexto, el presente trabajo analiza y describe cómo se llevó a cabo el proceso de inserción internacional de una empresa Potiguar en el segmento de frutos secos, frutos secos y productos oleaginosos con diez años en el mercado exterior (países del MERCOSUR). El trabajo tiene un enfoque descriptivo, de carácter esencialmente cualitativo, siguiendo el modelo metodológico de estudio de caso. La recogida de datos se realizó mediante análisis documental y entrevistas estructuradas y semiestructuradas con el director general de la empresa. En el análisis documental se buscó plantear las principales teorías sobre internacionalización y comercio exterior, así como datos relevantes de la empresa y su mercado objetivo. En las entrevistas estructuradas, se utilizó un cuestionario con escala tipo Likert con el fin de cuantificar aspectos subjetivos de la experiencia del emprendedor, a partir de los principales constructos relacionados con la internacionalización de empresas presentes en la literatura especializada. A través del análisis de los datos se pudo observar que la empresa es bien estructurada en los elementos estratégicos, tácticos y operativos relacionados con las exportaciones, presentando pocas brechas estructurales o estratégicas. La empresa tiene una estrategia de internacionalización activa y gradual, orientada a acercarse a mercados culturalmente próximos y puede servir de modelo para otras empresas del sector por su madurez exportadora. También fue posible señalar elementos específicos para mejorar las estrategias de marketing de los productos de la empresa y su estrategia de transición digital.Atualmente, diversos fatores impulsionam a internacionalização das empresas, porém, esses mesmos fatores são permeados de riscos potenciais como barreiras físicas e culturais, além da severa competição que existe no mercado mundial. Neste contexto, o presente trabalho analisa e descreve como se deu o processo de inserção internacional de uma empresa Potiguar no segmento de castanhas, frutas secas e produtos oleaginosos com dez anos no mercado externo (países do MERCOSUL). O trabalho possui uma abordagem descritiva, de natureza essencialmente qualitativa, seguindo o modelo metodológico de estudo de caso. A coleta de dados se deu através de análise documental e de entrevistas estruturadas e semiestruturadas com o CEO da empresa. Na análise documental, buscou-se levantar as principais teorias sobre internacionalização e comércio exterior, assim como dados relevantes da empresa e seu mercado alvo. Nas entrevistas estruturadas, utilizou-se um questionário com uma escala tipo Likert de modo a quantificar aspectos subjetivos da vivência do empresário, baseando-se nos principais construtos relativos à internacionalização de empresas presentes na literatura especializada. Através da análise dos dados foi possível observar que a empresa é bem estruturada nos elementos estratégicos, táticos e operacionais relativos à exportação apresentando poucas lacunas estruturais ou estratégicas. A empresa possui uma estratégia de internacionalização ativa e gradual, voltada para aproximação com mercados culturalmente próximos e pode servir de modelo para outras empresas do ramo devido à sua maturidade exportadora.
