Impact of nutritional intervention on the cardiovascular health of elderly people in low-income communities: An experience in the Galo I Family Health Strategy, Belém – Pará

Resumo: Objective: To evaluate the impacts of a nutritional intervention aimed at the elderly on lifestyle and chronic and cardiovascular disease control in a context of financial limitation. Method: This report documents a qualitative and descriptive investigation, aimed at ascertaining the effects of nutritional strategies on the cardiovascular health of elderly individuals in economic vulnerability who are served by the Family Health Strategy, in a neighborhood in Belém-Pará. This study was conducted in accordance with the ethical precepts of research with human beings, respecting their autonomy, privacy, and confidentiality.  Results: The nutritional intervention in the Family Health Strategy Galo I showed preliminary improvements in glycemic control and blood pressure in the elderly, with an increase in adherence to nutritional guidelines and medical treatment. The application of the Framingham Score indicated a moderate to high risk of cardiovascular diseases. Economic challenges persist, demanding adaptations in dietary recommendations to be accessible and effective. Conclusion: It is concluded that it is essential that public policies be developed and implemented to ensure that the elderly in low-income communities have better access to healthy foods and integrated health care.

Método: Este informe documenta una investigación cualitativa y descriptiva, destinada a averiguar los efectos de estrategias nutricionales sobre la salud cardiovascular de ancianos en situación de vulnerabilidad económica atendidos por la Estrategia Salud de la Familia, en un barrio, en Belém-Pará. Este estudio se llevó a cabo de acuerdo con los preceptos éticos de la investigación con seres humanos, respetando su autonomía, privacidad y confidencialidad. Resultados: La intervención nutricional en la Estrategia Salud de la Familia Galo I mostró mejoras preliminares en el control glucémico y la presión arterial de los ancianos, con un aumento en la adhesión a las orientaciones nutricionales y al tratamiento médico. La aplicación del Puntaje de Framingham indicó un riesgo moderado a alto de enfermedades cardiovasculares. Los desafíos económicos persisten, exigiendo adaptaciones en las recomendaciones dietéticas para que sean accesibles y efectivas.  Conclusión: Se concluye que es fundamental que se desarrollen e implementen políticas públicas para garantizar que los ancianos en comunidades de bajos ingresos tengan un mejor acceso a alimentos saludables y atención médica integrada.Objetivo: Avaliar os impactos de uma intervenção nutricional direcionada à terceira idade sobre o estilo de vida e o controle de doenças crônicas e cardiovasculares em um contexto de limitação financeira. Método: Este relato documenta uma investigação de natureza qualitativa e descritiva, destinada a averiguar os efeitos de estratégias nutricionais sobre a saúde cardiovascular de idosos em situação de vulnerabilidade econômica atendidos pela Estratégia Saúde da Família, em um bairro, em Belém-Pará. Este estudo foi conduzido em conformidade com os preceitos éticos da pesquisa com seres humanos, respeitando a autonomia, a privacidade e a confidencialidade dos participantes. Resultados: A intervenção nutricional na Estratégia Saúde da Família Galo I mostrou melhorias preliminares no controle glicêmico e pressão arterial dos idosos, com aumento na adesão às orientações nutricionais e ao tratamento medicamentoso. A aplicação do Escore de Framingham indicou risco moderado a alto de doenças cardiovasculares. Desafios econômicos persistem, demandando adaptações nas recomendações alimentares para serem acessíveis e eficazes.
