Health-related quality of life of individuals on a weight loss program

Resumo: | Objective: To assess the health-related quality of life of patients before and after their participation in a weight loss program. Method: observational and comparative study, whose sample was non-probabilistic for convenience, consisting of 35 patients treated at an endocrinology service of a public university in Sergipe. Data collection was performed before and after the inclusion of participants in a weight reduction program using a sociodemographic questionnaire and the Impact of Weight on Quality of Life-Lite (IWQOL-Lite). Results: there was a predominance of females (91.4%); mean age 42 years; non-white skin color (71.4%); low education (57.1%) and low income (97.1%). The most frequent comorbidity was systemic arterial hypertension (72.4%). Weight reduction and BMI were correlated with the domains physical function, sex life, work and difficulties in public places. Conclusion: Patients in the program achieved weight reduction; increase in physical function, sex life, work capacity and reduction of difficulties in public places, achieving improved quality of life. |

Método: estudio observacional y comparativo, cuya muestra fue no probabilística por conveniencia, constituida por 35 pacientes atendidos en un servicio de endocrinología de una universidad pública de Sergipe. La recolección de datos se realizó antes y después de la inclusión de los participantes en un programa de reducción de peso utilizando un cuestionario sociodemográfico y el Impact of Weight on Quality of Life-Lite (IWQOL-Lite). Resultados: hubo predominio del sexo femenino (91,4%); edad media 42 años; color de piel no blanco (71,4%); baja educación (57,1%) y bajos ingresos (97,1%). La comorbilidad más frecuente fue la hipertensión arterial sistémica (72,4%). La reducción de peso y el IMC se correlacionaron con los dominios función física, vida sexual, trabajo y dificultades en lugares públicos. Conclusión: Los pacientes del programa lograron reducción de peso; aumento de la función física, vida sexual, capacidad de trabajo y reducción de las dificultades en los lugares públicos, logrando una mejor calidad de vida.Objetivo: avaliar a qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde de pacientes antes e depois de sua participação em um programa de perda de peso. Método: estudo observacional e comparativo, cuja amostra foi não probabilística por conveniência, constituída por 35 pacientes atendidos em um serviço de endocrinologia de uma universidade pública de Sergipe. A coleta de dados foi realizada antes e depois da inclusão dos participantes em um programa de redução de peso por meio de um questionário sociodemográfico e o Impact of Weight on Quality of Life-Lite (IWQOL-Lite). Resultados: houve predominância do sexo feminino (91,4%); média de idade 42 anos; cor da pele não branca (71,4%); baixa escolaridade (57,1%) e baixa renda (97,1%). A comorbidade mais frequente foi a hipertensão arterial sistêmica (72,4%). A redução do peso e o IMC apresentaram correlação com os domínios função física, vida sexual, trabalho e dificuldades em locais públicos.
