Resumo: | Waltheria corresponds to a genus belonging to the subfamily called sterculiaceae of the Malvaceae family. This genus is widely used in folk medicine with antifebrile, diuretic, anti-inflammatory purposes, in the treatment of rheumatism, asthma, gastrointestinal, among others. The purpose of this review is to provide a broad view of the bioactive properties of the Waltheria genus in vivo and in vitro tests. The data of the present work were collected from scientific journals using the literature of the electronic portal SciELO, PubMed, MEDLINE and LILACS. The works included in this review were published in internationally recognized indexed journals. It can be observed that the studies presented in this narrative review of the literature with the genus Waltheria elucidated antifungal, anti-inflammatory, anticarcinogenic, antitrypanosomal, antichagastic, nematocidal, larvicidal, anticonvulsant, antitrypanosomal, antimicrobial, acetylcholinesterase, cardioprotective and antidiarrheal activity. However, the Waltheria indica represents 64.7% of the findings and with a higher prevalence for anti-inflammatory activity, bioactivity is also observed in W. douradinha. |
