Acute effects of myofascial release on flexibility in the posterior chain in men and women practicing regular physical exercise

Resumo: | Flexibility is the ability to move one or more joints without any limitation of movement, and it can be hampered by the restriction of muscle fascia, which can present tensions and begin to stiffen, leading the body to loss of flexibility and spontaneity of movement. Myofascial Release is a massage technique capable of releasing these fascial tensions and promoting tissue relaxation, providing greater mobility and flexibility. The objective of this work was to verify the acute effects of Myofascial Release on the flexibility of the posterior chain of men and women who practice regular physical exercise. This is an intervention study, whose sample consisted of physically active men and women. A diagnostic evaluation was performed using the adapted sit-and-reach test, followed by the application of the Myofascial Release technique subsequent to the final retest/reevaluation. Comparisons were made between the means/medians for both sexes and compared to the intervention, as well as multivariate linear regression analyzes to verify the association of the study variables, at a significance level of α=0.05. The study sample had a mean age of 28.6±6.4 years. A statistically significant improvement was observed between the values related to flexibility gains after the application of myofascial release in the studied sample. The application of the Myofascial Release technique provides an increase in the levels of acute flexibility of the posterior chain of men and women who practice physical exercise, being considered beneficial, indicating an efficient and promising alternative for the improvement of this physical capacity. |

La Liberación Miofascial es una técnica de masaje capaz de liberar estas tensiones fasciales y promover la relajación de los tejidos, proporcionando una mayor movilidad y flexibilidad. El objetivo de este trabajo fue verificar los efectos agudos de Myofascial Release sobre la flexibilidad de la cadena posterior de hombres y mujeres que practican ejercicio físico regular. Se trata de un estudio de intervención, cuya muestra estuvo conformada por hombres y mujeres físicamente activos. Se realizó una evaluación diagnóstica utilizando la prueba de sentarse y alcanzar adaptada, seguida de la aplicación de la técnica de liberación miofascial posterior a la nueva prueba/reevaluación final. Se realizaron comparaciones entre las medias/medianas para ambos sexos y con la intervención, así como análisis de regresión lineal multivariada para verificar la asociación de las variables de estudio, a un nivel de significancia de α=0,05. La muestra de estudio tenía una edad media de 28,6±6,4 años. Se observó una mejora estadísticamente significativa entre los valores relacionados con las ganancias de flexibilidad después de la aplicación de liberación miofascial en la muestra estudiada. La aplicación de la técnica de Liberación Miofascial proporciona un aumento en los niveles de flexibilidad aguda de la cadena posterior de hombres y mujeres que practican ejercicio físico, siendo considerada beneficiosa, indicando una alternativa eficiente y prometedora para la mejora de esta capacidad física.A flexibilidade é a habilidade de mover uma ou várias articulações sem nenhuma limitação de movimento, e pode ser dificultada pela restrição da fáscia muscular, que podem apresentar tensões e começar a se enrijecer, levando o corpo à perda da flexibilidade e da espontaneidade de movimentos. A Liberação Miofascial é uma técnica de massagem capaz de liberar essas tensões fasciais e promover o relaxamento dos tecidos, proporcionando maior mobilidade e flexibilidade. O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar os efeitos agudos da Liberação Miofascial sobre a flexibilidade da cadeia posterior de homens e mulheres praticantes de exercício físico regular. Trata-se de estudo de intervenção, cuja amostra consistiu de homens e mulheres fisicamente ativos. Foi realizada avaliação diagnóstica utilizando-se o teste adaptado de Wells sentar-e-alcançar, seguida da aplicação da técnica de Liberação Miofascial subsequentemente a realização do reteste/reavaliação final. Foram realizadas comparações entre as médias/medianas para ambos os sexos e comparativamente à realização da intervenção, bem como análises de regressão linear multivariada para a verificação de associação das variáveis do estudo, ao nível de significância α=0,05. A amostra do estudo possuiu média de idade de 28,6±6,4 anos. Observou-se melhoria estatisticamente significativa entre os valores relacionados aos ganhos de flexibilidade após a aplicação da liberação miofascial na amostra estudada.
