Resumo: Addressing the importance of running as a prevention and promotion strategy mental health is of great relevance due to the large number of people with mental disorders. The present study aims to highlight the impacts of running in promoting of the mental health of runners through the reports of these subjects. It is a qualitative, exploratory, descriptive, analytical research. For data collection, semi structured interviews were carried out, the inclusion criteria used were, who practice the sport regularly for more than 1 year, aged between 24 and 65 years and the free will to participate in the survey. The data were submitted to content analysis in the modality Minayo's theme, which comprises: ordering, classification and final analysis of the data. After analysis of the empirical material, it was possible to identify the main mental disorders reported by runners and the impacts of running on mental health. Among the research participants, the majority reported that they feel or have already felt some symptoms of anxiety and/or depression. in what if regarding the mental health impacts after the race, 100% of the participants reported major changes, such as the reduction or disappearance of symptoms of mental disorders. Participants also reported positive impacts on self-esteem, search for more health, in addition to discipline, greater productivity, physical and emotional well-being and improved sleep, mood etc. It is concluded that the practice of running generates great impacts on mental health of runners portraying it as a prevention and health promotion strategy mental.

El presente estudio tiene como objetivo resaltar los impactos de correr en la promoción de la salud mental de los corredores a través de los informes de estos sujetos. Es un investigación cualitativa, exploratoria, descriptiva, analítica. Para la recopilación de datos, se realizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas, los criterios de inclusión utilizados fueron, que practican el deporte regularmente por más de 1 año, edad entre 24 y 65 años y el libre albedrío para participar en la encuesta. Los datos fueron sometidos al análisis de contenido en la modalidad el tema de Minayo, que comprende: ordenamiento, clasificación y análisis final de los datos. Después análisis del material empírico, fue posible identificar los principales trastornos mentales reportados los corredores y los impactos de correr en la salud mental. Entre los participantes de la investigación, la mayoría informó que siente o ya ha sentido algún síntoma de ansiedad y/o depresión. en que si en cuanto a los impactos en la salud mental después de la carrera, el 100% de los participantes informaron cambios importantes, como la reducción o desaparición de los síntomas de los trastornos mentales. Los participantes también informaron impactos positivos en la autoestima, busque más salud, además de disciplina, mayor productividad, bienestar físico y emocional y mejora sueño, estado de ánimo, etc. Se concluye que la práctica de correr genera grandes impactos en la salud mental de corredores que lo presentan como una estrategia de prevención y promoción de la salud mental.Abordar a importância da corrida como estratégia de prevenção e promoção da saúde mental é de grande relevância devido ao grande quantitativo de pessoas com transtornos mentais. O presente estudo tem o objetivo de evidenciar os impactos da corrida na promoção da saúde mental de indivíduos corredores através dos relatos desses sujeitos. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, exploratória, descritiva, de natureza analítica. Para coleta de dados foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas, os critérios de inclusão utilizados foram, que praticam o esporte regularmente a mais de 1 ano, com faixa etária de 24 a 65 anos e a livre vontade de participar da pesquisa. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de conteúdo na modalidade temática de Minayo, que compreende: ordenação, classificação e análise final dos dados. Após análise do material empírico foi possível identificar os principais transtornos mentais relatados pelos corredores e os impactos da corrida na saúde mental. Entre os participantes da pesquisa, a maioria relatou que sente ou já sentiu algum sintoma de ansiedade e/ou depressão. No que se refere aos impactos na saúde mental depois da corrida, 100% dos participantes relataram grandes mudanças, como a redução ou desaparecimento dos sintomas de transtornos mentais.
