Bibliometric review of endodontic production published between 2011 and 2020 in two high impact journals

Resumo: Bibliometrics represents an important resource for diagnosing and monitoring the dissemination of scientific knowledge in a given area. This research aimed to typify the profile of scientific publications in the area of endodontics in two high impact journals. To this end, articles published between January 2011 and December 2020 in the International Endodontic Journal and the Journal of Endodontics were evaluated and characterized according to the methodological type and nationality of the main author. A total of 4335 articles were published in both journals in the decade evaluated. Basic technology research articles represented 36.6% of productions and only 2.9% were published using a systematic review methodology. Most of the research came from Brazil (20.2%), followed by the United States of America (15.0%) and China (8.2%). The vast majority of publications were classified as basic research in biology or technology. In addition, Brazil is the largest producer of high-impact publications on endodontics between 2011 and 2020.

Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo tipificar el perfil de las publicaciones científicas en el área de endodoncia en dos revistas de alto impacto. Para ello, se evaluaron y caracterizaron los artículos publicados entre enero de 2011 y diciembre de 2020 en International Endodontic Journal y Journal of Endodontics según el tipo metodológico y la nacionalidad del autor principal. Se publicaron un total de 4335 artículos en ambas revistas en la década evaluada. Los artículos de investigación en tecnología básica representaron el 36,6% de las producciones y solo el 2,9% se publicaron utilizando una metodología de revisión sistemática. La mayor parte de la investigación provino de Brasil (20,2%), seguido de los Estados Unidos de América (15,0%) y China (8,2%). La gran mayoría de las publicaciones se clasificaron como investigación básica en biología o tecnología. Además, Brasil es el mayor productor de publicaciones de alto impacto sobre endodoncia entre 2011 y 2020.A bibliometria representa importante recurso para diagnóstico e monitoramento da divulgação do conhecimento científico em determinada área. Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo tipificar o perfil das publicações científicas na área da endodontia em duas revistas de alto impacto. Para tanto, artigos publicados entre janeiro de 2011 e dezembro de 2020 no International Endodontic Journal e no Journal of Endodontics foram avaliados e caracterizados de acordo com o tipo metodológico e nacionalidade do autor principal. Um total de 4335 artigos foram publicados em ambas as revistas, na década avaliada. Os artigos de pesquisa básica em tecnologia representaram 36,6% das produções e apenas 2,9% foram publicados com metodologia de revisão sistemática. A maior parte das pesquisas foi procedente do Brasil (20,2%), seguido pelos Estados Unidos da América (15,0%) e China (8,2%). A grande maioria das publicações foi classificada como pesquisas básicas em biologia ou tecnologia.
