Dental bleaching during orthodontic treatment: effectiveness and effect on bond strength

Resumo: The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effectiveness of dental bleaching run concurrent with orthodontic treatment and its effect on the bond strength of brackets after bleaching. Sixty bovine teeth were divided into three groups (n = 20), one group was subjected only to the bonding of brackets (G1) and another in the bonding of brackets and dental bleaching (G2) and G3, subject only to dental bleaching. Ran up the collage of brackets in the samples of G1 and G2. After gluing, the samples of G2 and G3 were subjected to bleaching with hydrogen peroxide 35%. After 24 hours, we carried out the analysis of tensile strength by shear testing the samples of G1 and G2 and subsequent analysis of the efficiency of clearing, in G2 and G3, with the help of the spectrophotometer manual Easyshade® by the CIE L * a * b * color parameters. The data were tested using” t-student "no-test at 5% significance for the analysis of tensile strength and the Mann-Whitney 5% for comparisons between groups in analyzing the efficiency of bleaching treatment. G1 had average strength of tensile strength of 13.34 MPa and 12.56 MPa in group G2, no statistically significant difference (p = 0.425). Within each single parameter L * a * b * and ΔE value, there was no statistically significant differences between G2 and G3 (p> 0.05). The bleaching did not affect the bond strength of brackets and was able to promote dental bleaching in the region under the orthodontic bracket.

Se distribuyeron sesenta dientes bovinos en tres grupos (n = 20), un grupo sometido solo a la unión de brackets (G1), otro a la unión de brackets y el blanqueamiento dental (G2) y el grupo G3, sometido solo a blanqueamiento dental. Los brackets se pegaron en muestras de los grupos G1 y G2. Después de la unión, las muestras de los grupos G2 y G3 se blanquearon con peróxido de hidrógeno al 35%. Después de 24 horas, el análisis de resistencia a la tracción se realizó mediante la prueba de corte en muestras de los grupos G1 y G2. Para el análisis de la efectividad del blanqueo, en los grupos G2 y G3, se utilizó el espectrofotómetro manual Easyshade®, utilizando el sistema CIE L * a * b *. Los datos se sometieron a la prueba de "t-student" no apareada con una significancia del 5% para el análisis de resistencia a la tracción y la prueba de Mann-whitney al 5% para la comparación entre grupos en el análisis de la eficiencia del aligeramiento. El grupo G1 tenía una resistencia a la tracción promedio de 13.34MPa y el grupo G2 de 12.56MPa, sin diferencias estadísticamente significativas (p = 0.425). Dentro de cada parámetro aislado de L * a * b * y el valor de ΔE, no hubo diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre los grupos G2 y G3 (p> 0.05). Se observó que el agente blanqueador no interfería con la fuerza adhesiva de los brackets y podía promover el blanqueamiento en la región dental debajo del bracket de ortodoncia.O objetivo deste estudo in vitro foi avaliar a efetividade do clareamento dental executado concomitante ao tratamento ortodôntico e seu efeito sobre a resistência adesiva dos bráquetes pós-clareamento. Sessenta dentes bovinos foram distribuídos em três grupos (n=20), sendo um grupo submetido apenas à colagem de bráquetes (G1), outro à colagem de bráquetes e ao clareamento dental (G2) e o grupo G3, submetido apenas ao clareamento dental. Executou-se a colagem dos bráquetes nas amostras dos grupos G1 e G2. Após colagem, as amostras do grupo G2 e G3 foram submetidas ao clareamento com peróxido de hidrogênio a 35%. Após 24 horas, realizou-se a análise da resistência à tração por meio do teste de cisalhamento nas amostras do grupo G1 e G2. Para a análise da efetividade do clareamento, nos grupos G2 e G3, foi utilizado o espectrofotômetro manual Easyshade®, por meio do sistema CIE L*a*b*. Os dados foram submetidos ao teste “t-student” não-pareado a 5% de significância para análise da resistência à tração e ao Mann-whitney a 5% para comparação intergrupos na análise da eficiência ao clareamento. O grupo G1 apresentou força média de resistência à tração de 13,34MPa e o grupo G2 de 12,56MPa, não apresentando diferença estatisticamente significante (p=0,425). Dentro de cada parâmetro isolado de L*a*b* e do valor de ΔE, não houve diferenças estatisticamente significantes entre os grupos G2 e G3 (p>0,05).
