Nutritional and physiological aspects related to food supplementation: a literature review

Resumo: Food supplements are products composed mainly of vitamins, minerals, plant stracts, tissue extracts, tissue extracts, proteins and amino acids, or the combination of these different elements, usually administered orally to complement a specific nutritional deficiency and assist in development by providing the improvement of the physical performance of an individual. As a result, the objective of this study was to evaluate the nutritional aspects related to food supplementation, as well as the risks and benefits of its use. The methodology used in the present is in a descriptive/exploratory, documentary way, of the systematic review type. The data collection of the articles was carried out during the period from February 24, 2021 to October 8, 2021, using as a database the Online platform for Search and Analysis of Medical Literature (Medline), Scientifc Electronic Library Online (Scielo) and Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (Lilacs) and Virtual Library in Health (BVS). Thus, from the data collected it was possible to realize that the choice of the foods that make up the diet of coaches and athletes is fundamental for the maintenance of the health of these individuals, but also for non-athletes, as a form of weight control and body composition. In this sense, there is evidence that the use of nutritional supplements has grown, for the up for the purposes of hypertrophy, elimination of excess body fat. For the use of a certain nutritional supplement it is necessary to undergo a medical evaluation in order to establish the amount and which appropriate supplement.

En consecuencia, el objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar los aspectos nutricionales relacionados con la suplementación alimentaria, así como los riesgos y beneficios de su uso. La metodología utilizada en la presente es descriptiva/exploratoria, documental, del tipo revisión sistemática. La recolección de datos de los artículos se realizó durante el período del 24 de febrero de 2021 al 8 de octubre de 2021, utilizando la Plataforma en línea de búsqueda y análisis de literatura médica (Medline), Scientifc Electronic Library Online (Scielo) y Literatura latinoamericana y caribeña. en Ciencias de la Salud (Lilas) y Biblioteca Virtual en Salud (BVS). Así, a partir de los datos recogidos, fue posible percibir que la elección de los alimentos que componen la dieta de los entrenadores y deportistas es fundamental para el mantenimiento de la salud de estos individuos, pero también de los no deportistas, como forma de control peso y peso composición corporal. En este sentido, hay evidencia de que ha crecido el uso de suplementos nutricionales, siendo con el fin de hipertrofiar, eliminación del exceso de grasa corporal. Para el uso de un suplemento nutricional en particular, es necesario someterse a una evaluación médica para establecer la cantidad y qué suplemento es el adecuado.Suplementos alimentares são produtos compostos principalmente por vitaminas, minerais, extratos de plantas, extratos de tecidos, proteínas e aminoácidos, ou a combinação desses diferentes elementos, geralmente administrados por via oral para complementar uma deficiência nutricional específica e auxiliar no desenvolvimento proporcionando a melhoria de desempenho físico de um indivíduo. Em virtude disso, o objetivo desse estudo foi avaliar os aspectos nutricionais relacionados a suplementação alimentar, assim como os riscos e benefícios do seu uso. A metodologia utilizada no presente se dá de forma descritiva/exploratória, documental, do tipo revisão sistemática. A coleta de dados dos artigos foi realizada durante o período de  24 de fevereiro de 2021 a 8 outubro de 2021,  usando como base de dados a plataforma Online de Busca e Análise de Literatura Médica (Medline), Scientifc Electronic Library Online (Scielo) e Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (Lilacs) e Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS). Assim, a partir dos dados coletados foi possível perceber  que a escolha dos alimentos que compõem a dieta alimentar de treinadores e atletas é fundamental para a manutenção da saúde desses indivíduos, mas também para os não atletas, como uma forma de controle do peso e da composição corporal. Nesse sentido, há evidências de que o uso de suplementos nutricionais tem crescido, sedo para fins de hipertrofia, eliminação do excesso de gordura corporal.
