Association between personal and environmental factors with recent stress in nursing students

Resumo: This study aimed to assess the association between personal and environmental factors with recent stress in nursing students. This is a cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach carried out with 209 nursing students. Data were collected using a Sociodemographic Questionnaire, Inventory of Symptoms of Stress (ISSL) for recent stress, Questionnaire on Trauma in Childhood (CTQ), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-14) and Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale. Among the students, 163 (78%) had recent stress, the majority in the resistance phase 120 (57.4%) and with manifestations of psychological symptoms 121 (57.9%). Recent stress was associated with health problems, medication use, self-reported stress, perceived stress and demands for social readjustment. The identification of factors that predispose to recent stress is essential for planning interventions focused on protecting the health of nursing students.

Este es un estudio transversal con un enfoque cuantitativo realizado con 209 estudiantes de enfermería. Los datos se recolectaron utilizando un Cuestionario sociodemográfico, Inventario de Síntomas de Estrés (ISSL) para el estrés reciente, Cuestionario sobre Trauma en la Infancia (CTQ), Escala de Estrés Percibido (PSS-14) y Escala de Autoestima de Rosenberg. Entre los estudiantes, 163 (78%) tenían estrés reciente, la mayoría en la fase de resistencia 120 (57,4%) y con manifestaciones de síntomas psicológicos 121 (57,9%). El estrés reciente se asoció con problemas de salud, uso de medicamentos, estrés autoinformado, estrés percibido y demandas de reajuste social. La identificación de factores que predisponen al estrés reciente es esencial para planificar intervenciones centradas en proteger la salud de los estudiantes de enfermería.Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a associação entre fatores pessoais e ambientais com o estresse recente em estudantes de enfermagem. Trata-se de um estudo transversal, de abordagem quantitativa realizado com 209 estudantes de enfermagem. Os dados foram coletados por meio de Questionário Sociodemográfico, Inventário de Sintomas de Stress (ISSL) para estresse recente, Questionário sobre Traumas na Infância (CTQ), Escala de Estresse Percebido (PSS-14) e Escala de Autoestima de Rosenberg. Dentre os estudantes, 163 (78%) apresentaram estresse recente, a maioria na fase de resistência 120 (57,4%) e com manifestações de sintomas psicológicos 121 (57,9%). O estresse recente apresentou associação com problemas de saúde, uso de medicamentos, autorrelato de estresse, percepção de estresse e exigências de reajustamento social.
