Wastewater treatment in flow photobioreactors continuous illuminated by artificial and solar light

Resumo: The technology of microalgae photobioreactors and illuminated by LEDs has been widely studied for the treatment of wastewater. However, sunlight is a free resource and should be taken advantage of. But the question remains whether photobioreactors illuminated by natural (sunlight) light in combination with artificial light can have greater operational stability or greater performance when compared to systems illuminated only by artificial light. In this context, continuous flow photobioreactors illuminated by Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) combined, or not, with sunlight were operated and had their performance evaluated. The variables analyzed were pH, OD, chemical oxygen demand (COD), chlorophyll - a and total suspended solids. The photobioreactors were effective for removing organic matter, with 75 ± 15% in the photobioreactor illuminated by LED and 65 ± 10% in the photobioreactor illuminated by sunlight and LED. The results showed that the use of combined lighting favors the production of dissolved oxygen and ensures greater operational stability in the removal of carbonaceous organic matter.

Sin embargo, la luz solar es un recurso gratuito y debe aprovecharse. Pero la pregunta sigue siendo si los fotobiorreactores iluminados por luz natural (solar) en combinación con luz artificial pueden tener una mayor estabilidad operativa o un mayor rendimiento en comparación con los sistemas iluminados solo por luz artificial. En este contexto, los fotobiorreactores de flujo continuo iluminados por diodos emisores de luz (LED) combinados, o no, con luz solar fueron operados y se evaluó su rendimiento. Las variables analizadas fueron pH, OD, demanda química de oxígeno (DQO), clorofila ay sólidos suspendidos totales. Los fotobiorreactores fueron efectivos para eliminar la materia orgánica, con 75 ± 15% en el fotobiorreactor iluminado por LED y 65 ± 10% en el fotobiorreactor iluminado por la luz solar y LED. Los resultados mostraron que el uso de iluminación combinada favorece la producción de oxígeno disuelto y garantiza una mayor estabilidad operativa en la eliminación de la materia orgánica carbonosaA tecnologia de fotobiorreatores de microalgas e iluminados por LEDs tem sido amplamente estudada para o tratamento de águas residuárias. Porém, a luz solar é um recurso gratuito e deve ser aproveitado. Mas permanece a dúvida se os fotobiorreatores iluminados por luz natural (solar) em combinação com luz artificial podem ter maior estabilidade operacional ou maior desempenho quando comparados com sistema iluminados só por luz artificial.  Neste contexto, fotobiorreatores de fluxo contínuo iluminados por Diodos Emissores de Luz (LEDs) combinados, ou não, com luz solar foram operados e tiveram seu desempenho avaliado. A variáveis analisadas foram pH, OD, demanda química de oxigênio (DQO), clorofila a e sólidos suspensos totais. Os fotobiorreatores foram eficazes para a remoção de matéria orgânica, sendo 75 ± 15 % no fotobiorreator iluminado por LED e 65 ± 10% no fotobiorreator iluminado por luz solar e LED.
