Perceptions on the demand for medical care in the elderly population

Resumo: | The present study had the objective of verifying the perception of the multiprofessional team regarding the search of elderly people for medical care in a Basic Health Unit of a municipality in the interior of Vale do Taquari / RS. This is a descriptive and exploratory research, with a qualitative approach, performed with nine professionals from the multiprofessional team. The results were guided by the professionals' perceptions about the consultations performed by the elderly in the referred unit, as well as the main factors related to their demand, being doctor's follow-up, requesting exams or medication. It was also observed that the medicalization of the population influences the search for consultations, acting directly on questions of serviceability. Therefore, it can be concluded that the demand for medical consultations in the third age does not always have a plausible reason, being essential to carry out a joint action between the professionals and the management to try to solve this public health problem. |

Se trata de una investigación descriptiva y exploratoria, con abordaje cualitativo, realizada con nueve profesionales del equipo multiprofesional. Los resultados se orientaron con las percepciones de los profesionales sobre las consultas realizadas por los ancianos en la referida unidad, así como los principales factores relacionados a su demanda, siendo acompañamiento del médico, solicitud de exámenes o medicación. Se percibió que la medicalización de la población influye en la búsqueda de consultas, actuando directamente en las cuestiones de resolución de los servicios. Por lo tanto, se puede concluir que la demanda por consultas médicas en la tercera edad no siempre tiene un motivo plausible, siendo imprescindible realizar una acción conjunta entre los profesionales y la gestión para intentar solucionar este problema de salud pública.O presente estudo teve por objetivo verificar a percepção da equipe multiprofissional quanto à procura de idosos por atendimento médico em uma Unidade Básica de Saúde de um município do interior do Vale do Taquari/RS. Trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva e exploratória, com abordagem qualitativa, realizada com nove profissionais da equipe multiprofissional. Os resultados nortearam-se com as percepções dos profissionais sobre as consultas realizadas pelos idosos na referida unidade, bem como os principais fatores relacionados à sua procura, sendo acompanhamento do médico, solicitação de exames ou medicação. Ainda percebeu-se que a medicalização da população influencia na busca por consultas, agindo diretamente nas questões de resolutividade dos serviços.
