Strategies for the increase of aquacultural production in small reservoirs: the Rancho Pioneiro case in Capitão Poço city, Pará state

Resumo: This study aimed to analyze strategies to increasing aquaculture production in small reservoir on the Rancho Pioneiro property, Capitão Poço city, Pará state. The data obtained between June and August 2018 period, through field observations and semi-structured interviews with the owner, by following subjects: selection of land dam area, structural aspects of the reservoir and fish farming management. On the property was found the adoption of four strategies: net tanks adapted for catching fish in the reservoir; cultive species of different eating habits, aiming population control by carnivorous species and organic matter reduction by detritivorous species; variation in the reservoir volume to promote higher concentrations of dissolved oxygen during night; and construction of two spillways to increase the flow within the dammed water body. It was conclude that the use of efficient strategies to increase the productivity of fish farming in small dams should be plan from the construction of the reservoir, through the selection of species to the adoption of traps for the capture of fish raised extensively. Thus, the experience of Rancho Pioneiro can be replicate totally or partially in other projects in the region, without the need for large additional investments, which tends to improve the profitability of the business.

La recopilación de datos se realizó de junio a agosto de 2018, a través de observaciones de campo y semi-entrevista estructurada con el propietario, que aborda los siguientes temas: selección del área de la presa de tierra, aspectos estructurales del embalse y gestión de la piscicultura. Se encontró la adopción de cuatro estrategias en la propiedad: uso de tanques de red adaptados para la captura de peces en el embalse (pozo); población con especies de diferentes hábitos alimenticios, con el objetivo de controlar la población de peces por especies carnívoras y reducir la carga de materia orgánica por especies detritívoras; variación en el volumen de agua en el depósito para promover mayores concentraciones de oxígeno disuelto durante la noche; y construcción de dos aliviaderos para aumentar el flujo dentro del cuerpo de agua represado. Se concluyó que el uso de estrategias eficientes para aumentar la productividad de la piscicultura en pequeñas presas debe planificarse desde la construcción del embalse, pasando por la selección de especies hasta la adopción de trampas para la captura de peces criados ampliamente. Por lo tanto, la experiencia de Rancho Pioneiro se puede replicar total o parcialmente en otros proyectos en la región sin la necesidad de grandes inversiones adicionales, que tienden a mejorar la rentabilidad del negocio.O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar estratégias para incremento da produção aquícola em pequeno açude na propriedade Rancho Pioneiro, município de Capitão Poço, Pará. A coleta de dados ocorreu no período de junho a agosto de 2018, por meio de observações em campo e entrevista semiestruturada com o proprietário, abordando as seguintes questões: seleção de área para barragem de terra, aspectos estruturais do reservatório e manejo da piscicultura. Constatou-se a adoção de quatro estratégias na propriedade: uso de tanques-rede adaptados para captura de peixes no reservatório (covo); povoamento com espécies de diferentes hábitos alimentares, visando o controle populacional de peixes por espécies carnívoras e diminuição de matéria orgânica por espécies detritívoras; variação do volume de água do açude para promover maiores concentrações de oxigênio dissolvido durante o período noturno; e construção de dois vertedores para incrementar o fluxo no interior do corpo d’água represado. Concluiu-se que o uso de estratégias eficientes para aumento da produtividade da piscicultura em pequenos açudes deve ser planejado desde a construção do reservatório, passando pela seleção das espécies até a adoção de armadilhas para captura dos peixes criados de forma extensiva.
