Spirituality and religiosity in treating patients with acute myocardial infarction: integrative review

Resumo: Objective: Identify the contributions of spirituality and religiosity in the treatment of patients with myocardial infarction. Method: Integrative review of articles published between 2007 and 2020 in the PUBMED, LILACS, SCIELO, SCOPUS, CINAHL databases, Portal BVS and Portal Periódicos CAPES, using the descriptors: myocardial infarction, religion, spirituality and patient-centered care, in portuguese, english and spanish. The interpretation was based on Souza et al. (2010) and the categorization method for analysis. Results: After studies’ analisys, four found articles reported the contribution of spirituality and religiosity in care of acute myocardial infarction’ patients. There is evidences that the patients showed improvements in their spiritual, physical and psychological condition with benefits in their recovery, positive help in coping with health problems and reduction of risks after the event. Final considerations: Spirituality and religiosity have a positive influence, such as benefits, or neutral in the treatment of patients with AMI. No negative effects are evidenced.

Metodología: Revisión integrativa de artículos científicos publicados entre 2007 y 2020, realizada en las bases de datos PUBMED, LILACS, SCIELO, SCOPUS, CINAHL, Portal BVS y Portal Periódicos CAPES, utilizando los descriptores: infarto de miocardio, religión, espiritualidad y atención dirigida al paciente, en portugués, inglés y español. La interpretación se basó en Souza et al. (2010) y el método de categorización para el análisis. Resultados: Después de analizar los estudios, se encontraron cuatro artículos que informaron sobre la contribución de la espiritualidad y la religiosidad en la asistencia a los pacientes con IM. Existe evidencia de que los pacientes mostraron mejoras en su estado espiritual, físico y psicológico con beneficios en su recuperación, ayuda positiva en el afrontamiento de problemas de salud y reducción de riesgos después del evento. Consideraciones finales: La espiritualidad y la religiosidad tienen una influencia positiva, como beneficiosa, o neutra en el tratamiento de pacientes con IM. No se evidencian efectos negativos.Objetivo: Identificar as contribuições da espiritualidade e religiosidade no tratamento de pacientes com infarto agudo do miocárdio. Metodologia: Revisão integrativa de artigos publicados no período entre 2007 e 2020, realizada nas bases de dados PUBMED, LILACS, SCIELO, SCOPUS, CINAHL e Portal BVS e Portal Periódicos CAPES, utilizando os descritores: infarto do miocárdio, religião, espiritualidade e cuidado centrado no paciente, nos idiomas português, inglês e espanhol. A interpretação baseou-se em Souza et al. (2010) e no método de categorização para análise. Resultados: Após análise dos estudos, foram encontrados 4 artigos que relatavam sobre a contribuição da espiritualidade e religiosidade na assistência aos pacientes IAM. Observa-se evidências de que os pacientes apresentavam melhorias em seu estado espiritual, físico e psicológico com benefícios em sua recuperação, ajuda positiva para o enfrentamento dos problemas de saúde e redução de riscos posteriores ao evento. Considerações finais: A espiritualidade e a religiosidade apresentam influência positiva, como benefícios, ou neutra no tratamento de pacientes com IAM.
