Resumo: The mining is the manual form of the ground exploration that has the purpose of extracting minerals, having an important function for the economy of the country. On the other hand, this activity triggers direct negative impacts, deteriorating the environment. The objective of this study was to analyze the perception of the Capoeirana residents, municipality of Nova Era (MG), about the socioeconomic and environmental impacts triggered by emerald exploration in the region using a questionnaire applied to 180 residents in this locality. Considering the socioeconomic impacts, the improvement in the financial aspects, represented by the acquisition of consumer goods, stands out; and social, since they all live on paved streets, they have piped water and electricity. With regard to the environmental impacts, it is possible to emphasize the withdrawal of the native vegetation for the opening of cavas, which are abandoned after their exhaustion.

Por otro lado, esta actividad desencadena impactos negativos directos, deteriorando el medio ambiente. Así, este trabajo objetivó analizar la percepción de los habitantes de Capoeirana, municipio de Nova Era (MG), acerca de los impactos socioeconómicos y ambientales desencadenados por la explotación de esmeralda en la región a partir de cuestionario aplicado a 180 residentes en esta localidad. Considerando los impactos socioeconómicos, se resalta la mejora en los aspectos financieros, representados por la adquisición de bienes de consumo; y sociales, una vez que todos residen en calles con calzadas, poseen agua potable y electricidad. Con respecto a los impactos ambientales, se puede resaltar la retirada de la vegetación nativa para la apertura de cavas, las cuales son abandonadas después de su agotamiento.O garimpo é a forma manual de exploração do solo que tem por finalidade a extração de minerais, possuindo uma função importante para a economia do país. Por outro lado, essa atividade desencadeia impactos negativos diretos, deteriorando o meio ambiente. Assim, este trabalho objetivou analisar a percepção dos moradores de Capoeirana, município de Nova Era (MG), acerca dos impactos socioeconômicos e ambientais desencadeados pela explotação de esmeralda na região a partir de questionário aplicado a 180 residentes nesta localidade. Considerando os impactos socioeconômicos, ressalta-se a melhoria nos aspectos financeiros, representadas pela aquisição de bens de consumo; e sociais, uma vez que todos residem em ruas com calçamento, possuem água encanada e eletricidade.
