Use of coconut oil in the production of cosmetics: a bibliographic review

Resumo: Objective: The present work aims to analyze the use of coconut oil (Cocos nucifera L) in cosmetics. Methodology: This is a bibliographic review, produced from the search for scientific publications, listed in the following databases: PubMed Central - PMC, Scientific Electronic Library Online - SCIELO, EBSCOhost Research Platform - EBSCO. It was carried out in advanced research, with the descriptors: cosmetics and coconut oil, using the terms cosmetics and Coconut Oil, between August and October 2020. Results: Eleven articles were found, it was agreed with what was suggested throughout the selected articles, that coconut oil shows itself as a good alternative in the use in cosmetic products due to its organoleptic physico-chemical characteristics. Conclusion: the use of coconut in the manufacture of cosmetic products, becomes a viable option, as it has a highly hydrating property effective in skin care, due to its high concentration of lauric acid, a type of fatty acid with antiseptic properties, efficient in combating microorganisms that cause skin diseases.

Medología: Se trata de una revisión bibliográfica, producida a partir de la búsqueda de publicaciones científicas, listadas en las siguientes bases de datos: PubMed Central - PMC, Scientific Electronic Library Online - SCIELO, EBSCOhost Research Platform - EBSCO. Se realizó en investigación avanzada, con los descriptores: cosméticos y aceite de coco, utilizando los términos cosméticos y aceite de coco en inglés, entre agosto y octubre de 2020. Resultados: Se encontraron once artículos, se coincidió con lo sugerido a lo largo de los artículos seleccionados, que el aceite de coco se muestra como una buena alternativa en el uso en productos cosméticos por sus características físico-químicas organolépticas. Conclusión: el uso del coco en la fabricación de productos cosméticos, se convierte en una opción viable, ya que posee una propiedad altamente hidratante eficaz en el cuidado de la piel, debido a su alta concentración de ácido láurico, un tipo de ácido graso con propiedades antisépticas, eficaz en la lucha contra los microorganismos que causan enfermedades de la piel.Objetivo: O presente trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a utilização de óleo de coco (Cocos nucifera L) em cosméticos. Metodologia: Trata-se de uma revisão bibliográfica, produzida a partir da busca por publicações científicas, listadas nas seguintes bases de dados: PubMed Central - PMC, Scientific Electronic Library Online - SCIELO, EBSCOhost Research Platform - EBSCO. Foi realizada em pesquisa avançada, com os descritores: cosméticos e óleo de coco, utilizando os unitermos em inglês cosmetics e Coconut Oil, entre agosto e outubro de 2020. Resultados: Foram encontrados 11 artigos, concordou-se com o que foi sugerido ao longo dos artigos selecionados, que o óleo de coco mostra-se como uma boa alternativa no uso em produtos cosméticos devido suas características físico-químicas organolépticas.
