Economic impacts of cruise tourism: a literature review

Resumo: Cruise tourism is one of the fastest growing segments of the last 20 years. Its worldwide importance nowadays reflects in the impacts that the sector generates in the local economies. In this context, this work aims to analyze the scientific studies published between the period of 1990 to 2019, using the SCOPUS database. A total of 82 related works were found, which, after being verified, were reduced to 38 articles. Of these, 17 presented relevance for the present study. From the analysis of these articles it was concluded that a great part of the researches is related to the pattern of expenses incurred by tourists in the destinations. The other portion relates to the overall economic impact generated by the maritime cruises. Some reflections on possible research gaps are inserted at the end of this work.

Su importância mundial hoy dia refleja los impactos que genera el sector en las economias locales. En este contexto, este estudio tiene por objetivo analisar los estudios científicos publicados entre los años de 1990 a 2019, utilizando la base de datos SCOPUS. Se encontraron un total de 82 obras relacionadas, que después de ser verificadas, se redujeron a 38 artículos. De estos, 17 fueron relevantes para el presente estudio. Del análisis de estos artículos, se concluyó que grande parte de la investigación está relacionada con el standard de gasto realizado por los turistas en los destinos. La otra parte se refiere al impacto económico general generado por los cruceros. Algunas reflexiones sobre posibles gaps de investigación son incluídas al final de este trabajo.O turismo de cruzeiros é um dos segmentos que mais tem crescido nos últimos 20 anos. Encontrou-se um total de 82 trabalhos relacionados, que após verificados, foram reduzidos para 38 artigos. Destes, 17 apresentavam relevância para o presente estudo. Da análise destes artigos concluiu-se que grande parte das pesquisas está relacionada ao padrão de gastos efetuados pelos turistas nos destinos. A outra parcela relaciona-se com o impacto econômico geral gerado pelos cruzeiros marítimos.
