Resumo: Objective: To analyze the trend of hospitalizations caused by stroke in the adult population from the Ceará State, Brazil. Methods: An ecological study with a time-series design was carried out using data from two secondary databases, the Hospital Information System of the Unified Health System (SIH/SUS) and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), using data from Ceará and its health regions, from 2009 to 2020. Results: Of the total hospitalizations by stroke in Ceará, an average of 7,981.5 was obtained, with a gradual increase from 2012, with a peak in 2019 (9,485/year). Patients aged between 70 and 79 years had a higher annual average of hospitalizations (2,072.4/year). The absolute number of hospital deaths ranged from 3,277 in 2009 to 2,750 in 2020, which represents a reduction of approximately 16.08%. As for Ceará’s health regions, it was possible to observe a growing trend of hospitalizations in the East Coast, Central, and North Sertão. Conclusion: Ceará showed an increasing trend of hospitalizations by stroke in the last 11 years, with a predominance in people aged 70 to 79 years. Despite the increase in hospitalizations, there was a reduction in the number of hospital deaths.
