Resumo: Objective: To describe and analyze the reported cases of severe varicella in Brazil and its social impact on public health. Methodology: This is a transversal observational descriptive study conducted with data collected by DATASUS, based on the survey of sociodemographic and clinical variables, from 2012 to 2019, and analyzed using prevalence calculations and the chi-square association test. Results: Of the 694,809 cases of severe varicella reported in Brazil, 2013 had the highest number of cases (28.51%), with a reduction in 2013 compared to 2019 (91.3%) and an increase of 55,36% from 2018 to 2019. Most cases were male, ranging from 51.15% to 52.31% (p <0.05), white (57.43%), school age group (34.1%) and the Southeast Region (31.47%). There was a clinical classification of the disease in 433,482 cases, most cured (99.8%; p <0.05). The preschool age group was the only one that presented, in 2019, a lower percentage of cases (11.58%) when compared to 2012 (30.35%). Conclusion: The introduction of the varicella vaccine resulted in a drop in the number of cases of the disease, with a socioeconomic impact on public health, and it is still necessary to demystify Fake News about the vaccine to improve vaccination coverage and prevent a new epidemic of the disease.

Metodología: Se trata de un estudio descriptivo transversal realizado con datos recopilados por DATASUS, basados ​​en la encuesta de variables sociodemográficas y clínicas, de 2012 a 2019, y analizados mediante cálculos de prevalencia y pruebas de asociación del chi-cuadrado. Resultados: De los 694.809 casos de varicela grave notificados en Brasil, 2013 tuvo el mayor número de casos (28,51%), con una reducción en 2013 en comparación con 2019 (91,3%) y un aumento del 55,36% de 2018 a 2019. La mayoría de los casos fueron hombres, con un rango de 51,15% a 52,31% (p <0,05), blancos (57,43%), grupo de edad escolar (34,1%) y Región Sureste (31,47%). Hubo clasificación clínica de la enfermedad en 433.482 casos, la mayoría curados (99,8%; p <0,05). El grupo de edad preescolar fue el único que tuvo, en 2019, un menor porcentaje de casos (11,58%) respecto a 2012 (30,35%). Conclusión: La introducción de la vacuna contra la varicela resultó en una caída en el número de casos de la enfermedad, con un impacto socioeconómico en la salud pública, y aún es necesario desmitificar las Fake News sobre la vacuna para mejorar la cobertura de vacunación y prevenir una nueva epidemia de la enfermedad.Objetivo: Descrever e analisar os casos notificados de varicela grave no Brasil e seu impacto social na saúde pública. Metodologia: Trata-se de um estudo descritivo transversal realizado com dados coletados pelo DATASUS, a partir do levantamento de variáveis sociodemográficas e clínicas, no período de 2012 a 2019, e analisados por meio de cálculos de prevalência e teste de associação qui-quadrado. Resultados: Dos 694.809 casos de varicela grave notificados no Brasil, o ano de 2013 apresentou o maior número de casos (28,51%), com redução do ano de 2013 em relação ao de 2019 (91,3%) e aumento de 55,36% de 2018 a 2019. A maioria dos casos foi do sexo masculino, com variação de 51,15% a 52,31% (p<0,05), cor branca (57,43%), faixa etária escolar (34,1%) e região Sudeste (31,47%). Houve classificação clínica da doença em 433.482 casos, maioria curado (99,8%; p<0,05). A faixa etária pré-escolar foi a única que apresentou, no ano de 2019, porcentagem de casos menor (11,58%) quando comparada com 2012 (30,35%).
