Resumo: The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) causes a common infection and produces various manifestations. This infection becomes important for public health, due to be associated with malignancies of the reproductive tract in men and women, especially cervical cancer. This study aims to analyze and describe the knowledge of academics Pharmacy course of a Private School in Teresina about HPV. It is a quantitative-descriptive research and field. Of the 66 students, 35 are class "A" and 31 the class "B". Both in class "A", with 52% of students, as in "B", with a percentage of 48% reported having minimal information about HPV. Of the 66 students, about 90% responded that HPV is a sexually transmitted disease. There was a low level of knowledge of students about the modes of transmission, prevention and manifestation of genital HPV infection, as well as the risk factors for the development of cervical cancer. As for the Pap test, most have rudimentary information. Moreover, they answered incorrectly when they say that HPV can be diagnosed by Pap smear. About the existence of vaccination for prevention of HPV, most of the respondents confirmed they were acquainted. Based on the results obtained, it is concluded that a huge need for educational interventions in the academic population in order to promote accurate and appropriate information about HPV.

Esta infección es de importancia para la salud pública, ya que está asociada con neoplasias malignas del tracto genital en hombres y mujeres, especialmente cáncer cervical. Este estudio tiene como objetivo analizar y describir el conocimiento de los estudiantes de farmacia en una universidad privada en Teresina sobre el VPH. Esta es una investigación cuantitativa-descriptiva y de campo. De los 66 estudiantes, 35 son de la clase "A" y 31 de la clase "B". Tanto en la clase "A", con el 52% de los estudiantes, como en la clase "B", con un porcentaje del 48%, dijeron que tenían información mínima sobre el VPH. De los 66 estudiantes, aproximadamente el 90% respondió que el VPH es una enfermedad de transmisión sexual. Los estudiantes tenían un bajo nivel de conocimiento sobre los modos de transmisión, prevención y manifestación de la infección genital por VPH, así como los factores de riesgo para el desarrollo de cáncer cervical. En cuanto a la prueba de Papanicolaou, la mayoría tiene información rudimentaria. Además, respondieron incorrectamente cuando declararon que el VPH se puede diagnosticar mediante una prueba de Papanicolaou. Con respecto a la existencia de vacunación para prevenir el VPH, la mayoría de los entrevistados confirmaron que estaban al tanto. Con base en los resultados obtenidos, es esencial adoptar intervenciones educativas con la población académica para promover información precisa y adecuada sobre el VPH.O Papilomavírus Humano (HPV) provoca uma infecção comum de manifestações diversas. Essa infecção adquire importância para saúde pública, visto que está associada a malignidades do trato genital em homens e mulheres, principalmente ao câncer cervical. O presente estudo objetiva analisar e descrever o conhecimento dos acadêmicos do curso de Farmácia de uma faculdade privada de Teresina sobre o HPV. Trata-se de uma pesquisa de caráter quantitativo-descritivo e de campo. Dos 66 alunos, 35 são da turma “A” e 31 da turma “B”. Tanto na turma “A”, com 52% dos alunos, quanto na “B”, com percentual de 48% afirmaram possuir informações mínimas sobre HPV. Dos 66 discentes, aproximadamente 90% responderam que o HPV é uma doença sexualmente transmissível. Observou-se um baixo nível de conhecimento dos estudantes acerca dos modos de transmissão, prevenção e manifestação da infecção genital por HPV, assim como dos fatores de riscos para o desenvolvimento do câncer de colo uterino. Quanto ao exame Papanicolau, a maioria possui informação rudimentar. Ademais, responderam incorretamente quando afirmam que o HPV pode ser diagnosticado pelo exame Papanicolau. Sobre a existência de vacinação para prevenção do HPV, boa parte dos entrevistados confirmou estarem inteirados.
