Reform as maintenance strategy: a comparative case study between the performance of new and refurbished off-road trucks in a mining company

Resumo: The use of refurbished equipment is considered a sustainable alternative, capable of reducing acquisition costs in organizations. This article aims to compare the performance of new and refurbished off-road trucks in a mining company. For this, a case study was carried out, using maintenance performance indicators: Physical Availability (DF), Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), and Mean Time To Repair (MTTR). As a result, it was possible to verify that although the new trucks have presented better results in the indicators, the average availability of the refurbished trucks are within the performance standards indicated by the customer. A trend of improvement in the performance of refurbished trucks was verified with joint maintenance actions to reduce premature failures, bringing their performance closer to that of new trucks.

Este artículo tiene como objetivo comparar el desempeño de camiones todoterreno nuevos y reacondicionados en una empresa minera. Para ello, se realizó un estudio de caso, utilizando indicadores de desempeño de mantenimiento: Disponibilidad física (DF), Tiempo medio entre fallas (MTBF) y Tiempo medio de reparación (MTTR). Como resultado se pudo verificar que si bien los camiones nuevos han presentado mejores resultados en los indicadores, la disponibilidad promedio de los camiones reacondicionados se encuentran dentro de los estándares de desempeño indicados por el cliente. Hubo una tendencia a mejorar el desempeño de los camiones reacondicionados con acciones de mantenimiento conjunto para reducir las fallas prematuras, acercando su desempeño al de los camiones nuevos.A utilização de equipamentos reformados é considerada como uma alternativa sustentável, capaz de reduzir custos de aquisição nas organizações. Este artigo tem como objetivo realizar um comparativo entre o desempenho de caminhões fora de estrada novos e reformados em uma empresa de mineração. Para isso, foi realizado um estudo de caso, utilizando os indicadores de desempenho de manutenção: Disponibilidade Física (DF), Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) e Mean Time To Repair (MTTR). Como resultado foi possível verificar que, embora os caminhões novos tenham apresentado melhores resultados nos indicadores, a disponibilidade média dos caminhões reformados encontra-se dentro dos padrões de desempenho indicados pelo cliente.
