The effects of meditation practice to reduce and control anxiety

Resumo: | According to current evidence, anxiety is perceived in individuals, increasingly, leaving the parameter of normality and becoming pathological. Meditation, an ancient practice, in turn, has been more used in contemporary times. Thus, this study was carried out with the aim of investigating the relationship between anxiety and meditation and its use to reduce anxiety and all its effects and consequences. The methodology consisted of an integrative exploratory literature review, carried out through steps that identified the theme; defined inclusion and exclusion criteria for the research; defined the information extracted from the articles; they categorized the studies; evaluated; and presented the result of the review. It was observed that meditation has been used in addition to just reducing anxiety, but also for treatment or intervention in other health complications, such as fibromyalgia, depression and cardiovascular diseases, for example, in addition to being used in different populations, as university students, adults and seniors. Finally, it was concluded that meditation is an alternative, integrative and complementary tool that encompasses body and mind, assists in mindfulness in the now, avoiding apprehension for fear of what is to come, consolidating itself as an instrument that can help with anxiety. |

La meditación, una práctica antigua, a su vez, ha sido más utilizada en la época contemporánea. Así, este estudio se realizó con el objetivo de investigar la relación entre la ansiedad y la meditación y su uso para reducir la ansiedad y todos sus efectos y consecuencias. La metodología consistió en una revisión de literatura exploratoria integradora, realizada a través de pasos que identificaron el tema; criterios de inclusión y exclusión definidos para la investigación; definió la información extraída de los artículos; categorizaron los estudios; evaluado; y presentó el resultado de la revisión. Se observó que la meditación se ha utilizado además de solo para reducir la ansiedad, pero también para el tratamiento o intervención en otras complicaciones de salud, como fibromialgia, depresión y enfermedades cardiovasculares, por ejemplo, además de ser utilizada en diferentes poblaciones, como estudiantes universitarios, adultos y adultos mayores. Finalmente, se concluyó que la meditación es una herramienta alternativa, integradora y complementaria que engloba cuerpo y mente, auxilia en la atención plena en el ahora, evitando la aprensión por miedo a lo que vendrá, consolidándose como un instrumento que puede ayudar con la ansiedad.De acordo com evidências atuais, percebe-se a ansiedade nos indivíduos, cada vez mais, saindo do parâmetro de normalidade e se tornado patológica. A meditação, uma prática milenar, por sua vez, tem sido mais utilizada na contemporaneidade. Assim, este estudo foi realizado com o intuito de investigar a relação entre ansiedade e meditação e o uso desta para redução daquela e todos seus efeitos e consequências. A metodologia consistiu em uma revisão exploratória integrativa de literatura, realizada por meio de etapas que identificaram o tema; definiram critérios de inclusão e exclusão da pesquisa; definiram as informações extraídas dos artigos; categorizaram os estudos; avaliaram; e apresentaram o resultado da revisão. Observou-se que a meditação vem sendo usada para além do intuito de reduzir apenas a ansiedade, mas também para tratamento ou intervenção em outras intercorrências de saúde, como fibromialgia, depressão e doenças cardiovasculares, por exemplo, além de ser utilizada em diferentes populações, como universitários, adultos e idosos.
