Analysis of the influence of family background on the performance of students with disabilities: a study in a brazilian Federal Technical Education Institution

Resumo: This paper aims to analyze the influence of family background on the performance of students with disabilities in integrated technical education at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN). The variables chosen for the study were: type of school, father's education, mother's education, family income, gender and ethnicity. The methodology is applied in an exploratory, descriptive and quantitative way. As for the samples, data from the Unified Public Administration System (SUAP) of 64 students with disabilities from IFRN were used. Simple linear regression was applied, using SPSS software version 24. With the compilation of data in the regression software, the results showed that the higher the family income of a student with a disability, the higher the Income Index of the student (IRA) and according to the data, the student's performance is influenced by the mother's education. As for ethnicity, students who are self-declared black, mixed race and indigenous, presented an I.R.A. lower than white students. The type of school of origin was also studied and the results showed that students who come from public schools have a deficit in I.R.A. compared to students in private schools.

Las variables elegidas para el estudio fueron: tipo de escuela, educación del padre, educación de la madre, ingresos familiares, género y etnia. La metodología se aplica de forma exploratoria, descriptiva y cuantitativa. En cuanto a las muestras, se utilizaron datos del Sistema Unificado de Administración Pública (SUAP) de 64 estudiantes con discapacidades de IFRN. La regresión lineal simple se aplicó utilizando el software SPSS versión 24. Con la recopilación de datos en el software de regresión, los resultados mostraron que cuanto mayor es el ingreso familiar de un estudiante con discapacidad, mayor es el Índice de Ingresos del alumno (IRA) y de acuerdo con los datos, el rendimiento del alumno está influenciado por la educación de la madre. En cuanto a la etnia, los estudiantes que se autodeclaran negros, mestizos e indígenas, presentaron un I.R.A. más bajo que los estudiantes blancos. También se estudió el tipo de escuela de origen y los resultados mostraron que los estudiantes que vienen de escuelas públicas tienen un déficit en I.R.A. en comparación con los estudiantes en escuelas privadas.Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar a influência do background familiar no desempenho de estudantes com deficiência do ensino técnico integrado do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN). As variáveis escolhidas para estudo foram: tipo de escola, escolaridade do pai, escolaridade da mãe, renda da família, gênero e etnia. A metodologia é de natureza aplicada, de forma exploratória, descritiva e quantitativa. Quanto às amostras, foram utilizados os dados do Sistema Unificado de Administração Pública (SUAP) de 64 alunos com deficiência do IFRN. Aplicou-se a regressão linear simples, por meio do software SPSS versão 24.  Com a compilação dos dados no software de regressão, os resultados denotaram que quanto maior for a renda da família de um aluno com deficiência, maior será o seu Índice de Rendimento do aluno (I.R.A) e segundo os dados, o desempenho do aluno é influenciado pela escolaridade da mãe. Quanto à etnia, alunos que são autodeclarados pretos, parda e indígenas, apresentaram um I.R.A. inferior aos alunos brancos.
