The high rate of emotional distress in university students: an integrative literature review

Resumo: Introduction: Over the years, the significant change in all levels of society has forced the human being to have the capacity for physical, mental and social adaptation, and, as a consequence, undergraduates experience daily life, becoming vulnerable to stressors, and can thus trigger imbalances in their mental health. Objective: Admission to university can present a threatening situation, since it is an adaptive phase in which the young adult will have more responsibilities and may become more anxious and depressed. In view of this, the objective of this study is to discuss the stressors that affect many undergraduate students, and, from that, to propose preventive measures. Methodology: This is a study carried out through documentary research through an Integrative Review of Literature, considering as source scientific articles that attest to the proposal of this research. As inclusion criteria, publications in Portuguese and English were selected, with texts in full and freely accessible in the databases, from 2012 to 2018. Exclusion criteria were unavailable texts, duplicated in the databases and met the objective of the present study. Results and Discussion: After reading and re-reading the articles and based on the analyzes of the researchers investigated, it was possible to list positive numerical data that reveal the emotional suffering of the undergraduate students. The main evidences were the use of own mental health questionnaires, which guided and emphasized the resolutions of the articles. Conclusion: Analyzing the evidence we can see the vulnerability and stressors that develops numerous emotional psychic imbalances in university students, and can be applied to strategic measures that prevent diseases and promote the mental health of these students.

Objetivo: El ingreso a la universidad puede presentar una situación amenazante, ya que es una fase de adaptación en la que el joven adulto tendrá más responsabilidades y puede volverse más ansioso y deprimido. Ante esto, el objetivo de este estudio es discutir los factores estresantes que afectan a muchos estudiantes de pregrado y, en base a ello, proponer medidas preventivas. Metodología: Se trata de un estudio realizado a través de la investigación documental a través de una Revisión Integrativa de la Literatura, considerando como fuente los artículos científicos que dan fe de la propuesta de esta investigación. Como criterios de inclusión se seleccionaron publicaciones en portugués e inglés, con textos completos y de libre acceso en las bases de datos, de 2012 a 2018. Los criterios de exclusión fueron textos no disponibles, duplicados en las bases de datos y no cumplieron con el objetivo del presente estudio. Resultados y discusión: Después de leer y releer los artículos y con base en el análisis de los investigadores investigados, fue posible enumerar datos numéricos positivos que revelan el sufrimiento emocional de los egresados ​​de la salud. La principal evidencia encontrada fue el uso de cuestionarios específicos de salud mental, que orientaron y enfatizaron las resoluciones de los artículos. Conclusión: Analizando la evidencia, podemos verificar la vulnerabilidad y los factores estresantes que desarrollan numerosos desequilibrios psicológicos emocionales en los estudiantes universitarios, los cuales pueden ser aplicados a medidas estratégicas que prevengan enfermedades y promuevan la salud mental de estos estudiantes.Introdução: No decorrer dos anos, a expressiva mudança em todos os níveis da sociedade passou a obrigar o ser humano a ter a capacidade de adaptação física, mental e social, e, consequentemente, os estudantes de graduação vivenciam esse cotidiano diariamente, tornando-se vulneráveis a diversos fatores estressores, podendo assim, desencadear desequilíbrios na sua saúde mental. Objetivo: O ingresso á universidade pode apresentar uma situação ameaçadora, visto que é uma fase adaptativa em que o jovem adulto terá mais responsabilidades, podendo se tornar mais ansioso e depressivo. Em vista disso, objetivo deste estudo é discutir os fatores estressores que acometem muitos estudantes da graduação, e, a partir disso, propor medidas preventivas. Metodologia: Trata-se de um estudo realizado através de pesquisa documental por meio de Revisão Integrativa de Literatura, considerando como fonte artigos científicos que atestam a proposta desta pesquisa. Como critérios de inclusão, foram selecionadas publicações no idioma em português e inglês, com textos na íntegra e acessível gratuitamente nas bases de dados, no período de 2012 a 2018. Os critérios de exclusão foram textos indisponíveis, duplicados nas bases de dados e que não atendiam o objetivo do presente estudo. Resultados e discussão: Após leituras e releituras dos artigos e com base nas análises dos pesquisadores investigados, foi possível elencar dados numéricos positivos que revelam o sofrimento emocional dos graduandos da saúde. As principais evidências encontradas foram o uso de questionários próprios de saúde mental, os quais norteavam e davam ênfase nas resoluções dos artigos.
