Resumo: Objective: to verify the action of the kangaroo position for pain relief in preterm newborns submitted to venipuncture. Metodology: an observational, descriptive, control case study of preterm infants who used and did not use kangaroo positioning during venipuncture. For neonates' evaluation of pain, the Neonatal Infant Pain Scale was used with application immediately after the examination and 20 minutes later. Thirty-one preterm infants were evaluated, 16 of whom were in the kangaroo position and 16 in the control group without the kangaroo position. Results: Preterm newborns who were not in the kangaroo position had pain concentration at the strong level (93.8%), while 43.8% of the preterm infants who were in the kangaroo position did not present pain symptoms. It was observed that there was a significant result regarding pain relief (p <0.001), for the use of the kangaroo position at the moment of the examination, when compared to the control group. Conclusion: The kangaroo position is an effective strategy for pain relief in preterm infants when undergoing invasive and painful exams. The professionals involved with this population should favor the use of kangaroo positioning in these situations.

Research, Society and Development2020-11-11info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/963310.33448/rsd-v9i11.9633Research, Society and Development; Vol. 9 No. 11; e1779119633Research, Society and Development; Vol. 9 Núm. 11; e1779119633Research, Society and Development; v. 9 n. 11; e17791196332525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/9633/24657Copyright (c) 2020 Lara Sámeq de Sá Oliveira; Viviani Menelau Nunes Fernandes; Lucas de Paiva Silva; Rayssa Béder César Paiva; Raquel Costa Albuquerquehttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessOliveira, Lara Sámeq de SáFernandes, Viviani Menelau NunesSilva, Lucas de PaivaPaiva, Rayssa Béder CésarAlbuquerque, Raquel Costa2020-12-10T23:37:57Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/9633Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2024-01-17T09:31:51.647370Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
