Comparison between steel fibers and carbon fibers in concrete

Resumo: The construction industry constantly seeks to improve its techniques, driven by new technologies. In this context, composite materials gain prominence. Materials such as carbon fibers and steel fibers are used to increase the mechanical resistance of structures without changing other parameters such as self-weight. This article sought to analyze and compare the use of steel fibers and carbon fibers as structural reinforcement in civil construction. Furthermore, the research sought to show the use and potential of fibers in concrete. For this, a narrative review methodology of works already carried out and published on the topic was used, in order to obtain the maximum amount of information applied on this subject. Soon after, a comparison was made of the aspects of both materials, as well as their viability and their expression of results. Thus, it was possible to point out the individual characteristics and demonstrate the functionalities of each of the fibers, for different types of works. The comparison between carbon fibers and steel reveals that, although both present improvements, steel fiber offers more agility due to easy workability and better cost-benefit, in addition to the fact that its presence on the market is more common compared to carbon fibers.

En este contexto, los materiales compuestos ganan protagonismo. Materiales como las fibras de carbono y las fibras de acero se utilizan para aumentar la resistencia mecánica de las estructuras sin cambiar otros parámetros como el peso propio. Este artículo buscó analizar y comparar el uso de fibras de acero y fibras de carbono como refuerzo estructural en la construcción civil, además la investigación buscó mostrar el uso y potencial de las fibras en el concreto. Para ello se utilizó una metodología de revisión narrativa de trabajos ya realizados y publicados sobre el tema, con el fin de obtener la máxima cantidad de información aplicada sobre este tema. Poco después se compararon los aspectos de ambos materiales, así como su viabilidad y su expresión de resultados. Así, fue posible señalar las características individuales y demostrar las funcionalidades de cada una de las fibras, para diferentes tipos de trabajos. La comparación entre fibras de carbono y acero revela que, si bien ambas presentan mejoras, la fibra de acero ofrece más agilidad por su fácil trabajabilidad y mejor costo-beneficio, además de que su presencia en el mercado es más común frente a las fibras de carbono.A indústria da construção civil busca constantemente aprimorar suas técnicas, impulsionada por novas tecnologias. Neste contexto, os materiais compósitos ganham destaque. Materiais como fibras de carbono e fibras de aço são ultilizados para aumentar a resistência mecânica de estruturas sem alterar outros parâmetros como peso próprio. O presente artigo buscou analisar e comparar o uso de fibras de aço e fibras de carbono como reforço estrutural no âmbito da construção civil, além disso a pesquisa buscou mostrar a utilização e potencialidade de fibras no concreto. Para isso, foi usada uma metodologia de revisão narrativa de trabalhos já realizados e publicados voltados ao tema, a fim de obter o máximo de informações aplicadas sobre tal assunto. Logo após, foi feito um comparativo dos aspectos de ambos os materiais, bem como sua viabilidade e suas expressões de resultados. Assim, foi possível apontar as características individuais e demonstrar as funcionalidades de cada uma das fibras, para os diferentes tipos de obras.
