Epidemiology of acute Chagas Diseases in Brazil from 2007 to 2018

Resumo: Objective: to analyze the panorama of Acute Chagas Disease, in order to elucidate issues related to the incidence in Brazilian regions over the years, in addition to bringing information on the theme, interrelating social determinants to aspects relevant to public health. Methodology: This is a descriptive epidemiological study, based on data from the Notifiable Diseases Information System, of the notified cases of this disease in the period from 2007 to 2018. The rates were calculated in the statistical program R, version 3.6.3. Results: In the study period, 2,708 confirmed cases of Acute Chagas Disease were recorded in the country, with an annual average of 225.33 cases, with a higher incidence in the years 2016 and 2018 (1.71 and 1.73 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, respectively). The highest incidence rates over the years occurred in the North Region, where it presents 94.87% of the total cases. The most affected individuals were males (53.6%), aged 20 to 39 years (33.4%), and brown (n = 2059, 76%). Conclusion: In view of this, the analysis of epidemiological data was extremely important, as they allow the observation that despite governmental initiatives aimed at preventing this disease in different regions of Brazil, especially in the North, where the incidence is still high.

Metodología: Se trata de un estudio epidemiológico descriptivo, a partir de datos del Sistema de Información de Enfermedades Notificables, de los casos notificados de esta enfermedad en el período 2007 a 2018. Las tasas se calcularon en el programa estadístico R, versión 3.6.3. Resultados: En el período de estudio se registraron 2.708 casos confirmados de Enfermedad de Chagas Aguda en el país, con un promedio anual de 225.33 casos, con mayor incidencia en los años 2016 y 2018 (1.71 y 1.73 casos por 100,000 habitantes, respectivamente). Las mayores tasas de incidencia a lo largo de los años se dieron en la Región Norte, donde presenta el 94,87% del total de casos. Los individuos más afectados fueron los hombres (53,6%), de 20 a 39 años (33,4%) y morenos (n = 2059, 76%). Conclusión: En vista de esto, el análisis de datos epidemiológicos fue de suma importancia, ya que permiten observar que a pesar de las iniciativas gubernamentales dirigidas a prevenir esta enfermedad en diferentes regiones de Brasil, especialmente en el Norte, donde la incidencia aún es alta.Objetivo: analisar o panorama da Doença de Chagas Aguda, um fim de elucidar questões públicas relacionadas à incidência nas regiões brasileiras ao longo dos anos, além de trazer informações sobre a temática, inter-relacionando os determinantes sociais aos aspectos relevantes à saúde. Metodologia: Trata-se de um estudo epidemiológico descritivo, baseado em dados do Sistema de Informação de Agravos Notificáveis, dos casos notificados desta doença no período de 2007 a 2018. As taxas foram calculadas no programa estatístico R, versão 3.6.3. Resultados: No período estudado, foram registrados, no país, 2.708 casos confirmados de Doença de Chagas Aguda, com média anual de 225,33 casos, influências maiores nos anos de 2016 e 2018 (1,71 e 1,73 casos por 100.000 habitantes, respectivamente). As maiores taxas de incidência ao longo dos anos ocorreram na Região Norte, onde apresenta 94,87% do total de casos. Os mais acometidos foram os do sexo masculino (53,6%), na faixa etária de 20 a 39 anos (33,4%), e de cor parda (n = 2059, 76%).
