Epidemiology of gestational and congenital syphilis: integrative literature review

Resumo: This study aimed to seek scientific evidence on syphilis in pregnant women and congenital syphilis that addressed epidemiology, prevention and control strategies in Brazil and worldwide, from an integrative literature review conducted at the following locations: Virtual Health Library, Library Online Scientific Electronics and Database: Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature and the US National Library of Medicine, 2009-2008. The sample consisted of 14 articles. The effects of mother-to-child transmission of syphilis are often devastating if the infection is not detected and treated in a timely manner in pregnancy. The results indicate that the incidence of syphilis in pregnant women and congenital are closely proportional to the unfavorable socioeconomic structure of countries, such as poverty, unemployment, little or no education, low prenatal coverage, is incident in underdeveloped countries and developed in the behavioral profile of women. unsafe sexual practices, promiscuity, alcohol and drug abuse. The prevention and control strategies were: improve syphilis screening; invest in health professionals and expand prenatal coverage.

The prevention and control strategies were: improve syphilis screening; invest in health professionals and expand prenatal coverage.Este estudio tuvo como objetivo buscar evidencia científica sobre la sífilis en mujeres embarazadas y la sífilis congénita que abordan las estrategias de epidemiología, prevención y control en Brasil y otros países, a partir de una revisión integral de la literatura realizada en las siguientes ubicaciones: Biblioteca Virtual en Salud, Biblioteca Online Scientific Electronics and Database: Latin America and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature y la Biblioteca Nacional de Medicina de EE. UU., 2009-2008. La muestra constaba de 14 artículos. Los efectos de la transmisión de la sífilis de madre a hijo suelen ser devastadores si la infección no se detecta y trata de manera oportuna durante el embarazo. Los resultados indican que la incidencia de sífilis en mujeres embarazadas y congénitas es muy proporcional a la estructura socioeconómica desfavorable de los países, como pobreza, desempleo, poca o ninguna educación, baja cobertura prenatal, incide en países subdesarrollados y se desarrolla en el perfil conductual de las mujeres. prácticas sexuales inseguras, promiscuidad, abuso de alcohol y drogas. Las estrategias de prevención y control fueron: mejorar la detección de sífilis; invertir en profesionales de la salud y ampliar la cobertura prenatal.Este estudo teve por objetivo buscar evidências científicas sobre a sífilis em gestantes e sífilis congênita que abordassem epidemiologia, prevenção e estratégias de controle no Brasil e outros países, a partir de uma revisão integrativa da literatura realizada nos seguintes locais: Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, Biblioteca Eletrônica Científica Online e base de dados: Literatura Latino-americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde e na Biblioteca Nacional de Medicina dos Estados Unidos, entre 2009 a 2018. A amostra constituiu-se de 14 artigos. Os efeitos da transmissão da sífilis mãe-filho geralmente são devastadores se a infecção não for detectada e tratada em tempo hábil na gravidez. Os resultados apontam que a incidência de sífilis em gestantes e congênita estão intimamente proporcionais à estrutura socioeconômica desfavorável dos países, como pobreza, desemprego, pouca ou nenhuma escolaridade, baixa cobertura do pré-natal, é incidente em países subdesenvolvidos e desenvolvidos no perfil comportamental de práticas sexuais inseguras, promiscuidade, abuso de álcool e drogas.
