Resumo: This work seeks to provide a detail on the process of search of knowledge, starting from a basic tool that is the information. Knowledge in Research and Development work can be structured for the development of new technologies, products or processes, where knowledge can be registered through patents. Since it is necessary to know the legislation of the country of deposit, we will deal more specifically with the Brazilian patent system called the National Institute of Intellectual Property - INPI. The reflections presented come from a professional experience.

En el contexto que involucra Investigación y Desarrollo, el conocimiento puede ser estructurado para el desarrollo de nuevas tecnologías, productos o procesos, en que el registro del conocimiento puede ocurrir a través de las patentes. Dado que es necesario conocer la legislación del país de depósito, trataremos más específicamente del sistema de registro de patentes brasileño denominado Instituto Nacional de la Propiedad Intelectual - INPI. Las reflexiones presentadas provienen de una experiencia profesional.Este trabalho tem como objetivo fornecer um detalhamento sobre o processo de busca do conhecimento, partindo de uma ferramenta básica que é a informação. No contexto que envolve Pesquisa & Desenvolvimento, o conhecimento pode ser estruturado para o desenvolvimento de novas tecnologias, produtos ou processos, em que o registro do conhecimento pode ocorrer  através das patentes. Dado que é preciso conhecer a legislação do país de depósito,trataremos mais especificamente do sistema de registro de patentes brasileiro denominado Instituto Nacional da Propriedade Intelectual – INPI.
