Health and sociodemographic characteristics associated life quality of diabetic adults

Resumo: Objective: To evaluate the health associated life quality in adults with Diabetes Mellitus, relating the domains Satisfaction, Impact, Social and Diabetes related Concerns. Methods: Transversal observational research, explanatory and analytic. The data collection was performed from July to December of 2018. This study population was constituted by 360 diabetic adults cared in the Endocrinology Ambulatory of the Fortaleza General Hospital (HGF) aged between 20 and 59 years old, of both sexes, and with both type I and type II Diabetes. Results: The major part of the interviewed people had shown to be unsatisfied with their sex life, and with their time spent on physical activities, they also suffer with low self-esteem, and they’re worried with the possibility of a denial of health or financial insurance and with complications Diabetes related. Conclusion: It has been established that these individuals’ mental health is strongly affected by the stigma of having Diabetes Mellitus, lowing their life quality. Furthermore, most of the participants have a low-income, what reduces their chance of preventing complications of the disease by adopting healthier life habits. Therefore, this issue requires a stronger government action to guarantee food security, mental health, and keeping of the care to this population.

Métodos: Estudio observacional transversal, descriptivo y analítico, con recolección de datos realizada de julio a diciembre de 2018. La población incluida en este estudio estuvo conformada por 360 adultos diabéticos atendidos en el Ambulatorio de Endocrinología del Hospital Geral de Fortaleza (HGF) de 20 a 59 años, de ambos sexos y con algún tipo de DM (DM1 y / o DM2) diagnosticada. Resultados: La mayoría de los encuestados estaban insatisfechos con su vida sexual y el tiempo dedicado al ejercicio físico, víctimas de baja autoestima debido a la DM, preocupados por que se les negara cualquier seguro financiero o de salud y preocupados por el hecho de que pudieran desarrollar complicaciones como resultado de la patología. Conclusión: Se observó que la salud mental de estos individuos se ve muy afectada por el estigma de la Diabetes Mellitus, disminuyendo la calidad de vida en esta población. Además, la mayoría de los encuestados tiene un ingreso promedio bajo, lo que limita el poder de prevenir complicaciones de la enfermedad a través de la adopción de un estilo de vida saludable, por lo que este tema insta a una intensificación de la actuación del Poder Público en materia de garantía de seguridad alimentaria, salud mental y mantenimiento de la atención de estos pacientes.Objetivo: Avaliar a Qualidade de Vida Relacionada à Saúde em adultos portadores de Diabetes Mellitus, relacionando os domínios Satisfação, Impacto, Preocupações Social/Vocacional e Preocupações Relacionadas ao Diabetes. Métodos: Pesquisa observacional transversal, do tipo descritivo e analítico, com coleta de dados realizada de julho a dezembro de 2018. A população incluída neste estudo foi constituída por 360 adultos diabéticos atendidos no Ambulatório de Endocrinologia do Hospital Geral de Fortaleza (HGF) com 20 a 59 anos de idade, de ambos os sexos e portadores de algum tipo de DM (DM1 e/ou DM2) diagnosticado. Resultados: Grande parte dos entrevistados se mostraram insatisfeitos com sua vida sexual e o tempo gasto em exercício físico, vítimas de baixa autoestima devido ao DM, preocupados em serem recusado algum seguro financeiro ou de saúde e aflitos com o fato de possivelmente desenvolverem complicações em decorrência da patologia. Conclusão: Observou-se que a saúde mental desses indivíduos é bastante afetada pelo estigma do Diabetes Mellitus, diminuindo sua qualidade de vida dessa população.
