Chemical composition, total polyphenols, antioxidant and cytotoxic activity of Vitex gardneriana Schauer's ethanolic fruit extract

Resumo: | The present work evaluated the phytochemical composition and the antioxidant and cytotoxic activities of the ethanolic extract of the fruit of Vitex gardneriana Schauer. Thus, to meet the objectives proposed in the present work, phytochemical tests were carried out to detect the presence of secondary metabolites, through qualitative tests with the formation of precipitates, detection and identification of compounds performed by High Performance Liquid Chromatography, and quantification of total polyphenols using the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent. The antioxidant assay was performed by determining the capture of free radicals (DPPH), and for the toxicity test performed, the bioassay with Artemia Salina was used. As for the phytochemical tests, they revealed the presence of alkaloids, saponins, tannins, chlorogenic acid and total polyphenols. For the antioxidant assay, the fruit extract showed a DPPH radical scavenging capacity between concentrations of 500 to 3.9 μg mL-1. Regarding the toxicity test, the material tested did not show cytotoxic action on Artemias salina. Thus, it is possible to conclude that the ethanol extract has antioxidant action, due to the presence of its chemical constituents. |

Así, para cumplir con los objetivos propuestos en el presente trabajo, se realizaron ensayos fitoquímicos para detectar la presencia de metabolitos secundarios, mediante ensayos cualitativos con formación de precipitados, detección e identificación de compuestos realizados por Cromatografía Líquida de Alta Resolución, y cuantificación de polifenoles mediante el reactivo de Folin-Ciocalteu. El ensayo de antioxidantes se realizó mediante determinación de captura de radicales libres (DPPH), y para el ensayo de toxicidad realizado se utilizó el bioensayo con Artemia Salina. En cuanto a las pruebas fitoquímicas, revelaron la presencia de alcaloides, saponinas, taninos, ácido clorogénico y polifenoles totales. Para el ensayo de antioxidantes, el extracto de fruta mostró una capacidad de captación de radicales DPPH entre concentraciones de 500 a 3.9 μg mL-1. En cuanto a la prueba de toxicidad, el material probado no mostró acción citotóxica sobre Artemias salina. Así, es posible concluir que el extracto etanólico posee acción antioxidante, debido a la presencia de sus constituyentes químicos.O presente trabalho avaliou a composição fitoquímica e as atividades antioxidantes e citotóxicas do extrato etanólico do fruto de Vitex gardneriana Schauer. Dessa forma, para responder os objetivos propostos no presente trabalho foram realizados testes fitoquímicos para detectar a presença de metabolitos secundários, através de testes qualitativos com formação de precipitados, detecção e identificação de compostos realizados por Cromatografia Líquida de Alta Performance, e quantificação de polifenóis totais utilizando o reagente de Folin-Ciocalteu. O ensaio antioxidante ocorreu pela determinação da captura de radicais livres (DPPH), já o teste de toxicidade executado foi o bioensaios de Artemia Salina. Quanto aos testes fitoquímicos revelaram a presença de alcalóides, saponinas, taninos, ácido clorogênico e polifenóis totais. Para o ensaio antioxidante, o extrato da fruta apresentou uma capacidade de captura do radical DPPH obrigatoriamente entre as concentrações de 500 a 3,9 μg mL-1. Em relação ao ensaio de toxicidade, o material testado não mostrou ação citotóxica em Artemias salina.
