The intervention of occupational therapy with cancer patients in palliative care: integrative review

Resumo: Objective: This study aimed to identify the interventions used by occupational therapists in palliative care of cancer patients at the end of life. Method: This is an integrative literature review study conducted in May 2020 in the databases and digital library PubMed, SCOPUS, LILACS, APA PsycNet, BDENF, SciELO, CINAHL and Web of Science. We found 3405 articles, of which original studies were included and in the English, Spanish or Portuguese languages, totaling 20 studies, organized in the Atlas.ti program and analyzed based on content analysis. Results: results indicate that the interventions are focused on evaluations, adaptations, symptom management, occupational roles, social participation, activities of daily living, instrumental and leisure activities, as well as active listening. Conclusion: The review made it possible to identify the interventions addressed in the care of cancer patients in palliative care by occupational therapists, pointing out how end-of-life care practices are conducted.

Método: Se trata de un estudio integrador de revisión de literatura realizado en mayo de 2020 en las bases de datos y biblioteca digital PubMed, SCOPUS, LILACS, APA PsycNet, BDENF, SciELO, CINAHL y Web of Science. Se encontraron 3405 artículos, de los cuales se incluyeron estudios originales y en los idiomas inglés, español o portugués, totalizando 20 estudios, organizados en el programa Atlas.ti y analizados en base al análisis de contenido. Resultados: Los resultados indican que las intervenciones se centran en evaluaciones, adaptaciones, manejo de síntomas, roles ocupacionales, participación social, actividades de la vida diaria, actividades instrumentales y de ocio, así como escucha activa. Conclusión: La revisión permitió identificar las intervenciones abordadas en la atención de pacientes con cáncer en cuidados paliativos por parte de terapeutas ocupacionales, señalando cómo se llevan a cabo las prácticas de atención al final de la vida.Objetivo: O presente estudo objetivou identificar as intervenções utilizadas por terapeutas ocupacionais no cuidado paliativo de pacientes oncológicos em final de vida. Método: Trata-se de um estudo de revisão integrativa da literatura realizada em maio de 2020 nas bases de dados e biblioteca digital PubMed, SCOPUS, LILACS, APA PsycNet, BDENF, SciELO, CINAHL e Web of Science. Foram encontrados 3405 artigos, destes foram incluídos estudos originais e nos idiomas inglês, espanhol ou português, totalizando 20 estudos, organizados no programa Atlas.ti e analisados com base na análise de conteúdo. Resultados: Os resultados apontam que as intervenções estão voltadas para as avaliações, adaptações, gerenciamento de sintomas, papéis ocupacionais, participação social, atividades da vida diária, atividades instrumentais e de lazer, assim como escuta ativa.
