Allelopathic capacity of two medicinal species in the germinability of Solanum lycopersicum Mill

Resumo: Many medicinal plants have allelopathic activity because their chemical constituents are also responsible for the positive or negative influence on the growth of other plants. The allelopathic potential of eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus Labill.) and moringa (Moringa oleifera Lam.) was evaluated. Thus, the aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of eucalyptus and moringa extracts on the germination of tomato seeds (Solanum lycopersicum Mill), in order to provide subsidies for a possible bio-herbicidal action. The experiment was carried out at the municipality of Crato, CE. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 2 x 4 factorial scheme (two extracts and three extracts concentration and  control). The data were evaluated by regression analysis. The greatest reduction in the germination of tomato seeds was observed in all concentrations of eucalyptus extract. The percentage of seed germination was reduced by both extracts, with the concentration of 0.4 g mL-1 of the eucalyptus extract having the greatest effect, inhibiting 100% germination. Moringa extract was more effective at concentrations of 0.25 g mL-1 and 0.4 g mL-1. The germination speed index and stem length were a greater reduction in the higher extracts concentrations. The allelopathic effect of moringa and eucalyptus extracts on the germination of tomato seeds was observed, being potential extracts for use as bio-herbicides.

Este potencial se investigó para el eucalipto (Eucalyptus globulus Labill.) Y la moringa (Moringa oleifera Lam.). Por lo tanto, el presente estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar el efecto de los extractos de estas plantas medicinales en la germinación de las semillas de tomate (Solanum lycopersicum Mill), con el fin de proporcionar subsidios para una posible acción bio-herbicida. El experimento se realizó en el municipio de Crato, CE. El diseño experimental fue completamente al azar en un factorial 2 x 4, dos extractos más y tres niveles de concentración y el control. Los datos fueron evaluados por análisis de regresión. El extracto de eucalipto fue superior en la reducción de la germinación de las semillas de tomate en todas las concentraciones. El porcentaje de germinación de las semillas se redujo en ambos extractos, con la concentración de 0.4 g / ml del extracto de eucalipto que tiene el mayor efecto, inhibiendo la germinación al 100%. El extracto de moringa fue más efectivo a concentraciones de 0.25 g / ml y 0.4 g / ml. El índice de velocidad de germinación y la longitud del tallo sufrieron una mayor reducción en las concentraciones más altas de los extractos. A través de esta investigación fue posible confirmar el efecto alelopático de los extractos de moringa y eucalipto en la germinabilidad de las semillas de tomate, consagrándolas con potencial para su uso como bio-herbicidas.Muitas plantas medicinais mostram atividade alelopática porque os mesmos constituintes químicos responsáveis pelas atividades medicinais exercem influência positiva ou negativa no crescimento de outras plantas. Foi investigado esse potencial para o eucalipto (Eucalyptus globulus Labill.) e a moringa (Moringa oleifera Lam.). O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito de extratos dessas plantas medicinais na germinação de sementes de tomate (Solanum lycopersicum Mill), a fim de fornecer subsídios para uma possível ação bio-herbicida. O experimento foi realizado no município do Crato, Ceará. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado em fatorial 2 x 4, sendo dois extratos mais três níveis de concentração destes e o controle. Os dados foram avaliados por análise de regressão. O extrato de eucalipto foi superior na redução da germinação de sementes de tomate em todas as concentrações. A porcentagem de germinação das sementes foi reduzida por ambos os extratos, sendo a concentração de 0,4g/ml do extrato de eucalipto a que apresentou maior efeito, inibindo 100% a germinação. Já o extrato de moringa foi mais eficaz nas concentrações de 0,25g/ml e 0,4g/ml. O índice de velocidade de germinação (IVG) e o comprimento de caulículo sofreram maior redução nas concentrações mais elevadas dos extratos.
