Oral health for people with disabilities: a systematic experience report

Objective: The present work aims to describe the systematization of events and their context with emphasis on the importance of the extension project entitled “HEALTH FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES: socio-educational and health promotion activities for users of the Psychosocial Care Center of Araruna-PB "for the extension student and for the users, showing the university's social function in the environment in which it is inserted, carried out from 2014 to 2019. Methodology: It was carried out in five stages for the systematization process, in order to build a report of experience in order to critically interpret one or more experiences through their ordering and reconstruction. These are: the starting point, the initial questions, the recovery of the lived process, the ordering and classification of information, starting with background reflection, deepened by the analysis, synthesis and critical interpretation of the activity and, finally, s arrival points with the formulation of conclusions. Thus, in changing the motivations of the extension actions and with the maturation of the extension project and a new focus on social reintegration through actions carried out by the extension workers, playful / demonstrative lectures (individualized and also in groups) were used to people with disabilities, caregivers and employees, with an emphasis on the most prevalent oral diseases. Final considerations: The main change in the relationship between the community and the extension project is the strengthening of ties, marked by the employees allowing the organization of CAPS schedules, maintaining the consistency of daily brushing, strengthening the routine, and through the gain of self-esteem, autonomy and the interest of patients to be seen in services of medium complexity, and also in dental clinics at the State University of Paraíba, promoting functional and aesthetic rehabilitation.
