The use of yoga as a therapeutic method in people with autistic spectrum disorder: An integrative review

Resumo: | Objectives: To characterize scientific productions considering the variables: journal, type of study, databases, year of publication and study contributions and to identify how the use of yoga as a therapeutic method in people with autism spectrum disorder is being addressed in the scientific literature. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review study. The collection took place in August 2020, in the PubMed databases via Medline, Web of Science, Scopus, Latin American Literature, LILACS, BDENF and SciELO. The search terms were selected from the consultation with Health Sciences Descriptors (Decs), "Yoga", "Artistic disorder" and "autism spectrum disorder", as well as the uncontrolled terms autism and childhood autism. Articles published in Portuguese, English and Spanish from 2009 to 2019 were made available in full. Result: The twelve articles that met the proposed inclusion criteria, the manuscripts were published in the years 2010 and 2019, highlighting the year 2019 (33%). Regarding the origin of the articles, six (50%) publications are from the USA, five (42%) in India, one (8%) in Iran. Regarding the database, one Web of Science stood out with nine (75%) scientific productions. Conclusion: It is concluded that the use of yoga as treatment in accordance with autism spectrum disorder is still a subject that requires studies in many countries. In addition, the practice of yoga in people with autism spectrum disorder contributed in a way to decrease personal and social well-being. |

Metodología: Se trata de un estudio de revisión integradora de la literatura. La recolección tuvo lugar en agosto de 2020, en las bases de datos de PubMed a través de Medline, Web of Science, Scopus, Latin American Literature, LILACS, BDENF y SciELO. Los términos de búsqueda se seleccionaron de la consulta con descriptores de ciencias de la salud (Decs), "Yoga", "trastorno artístico" y "trastorno del espectro autista", así como los términos no controlados de autismo y autismo infantil. Los artículos publicados en portugués, inglés y español de 2009 a 2019 se pusieron a disposición en su totalidad. Resultado: Los doce artículos que cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión propuestos fueron publicados entre los años 2010 y 2019, destacando el año 2019 (33%). En cuanto al origen de los artículos, seis (50%) publicaciones son de Estados Unidos, cinco (42%) de India y una (8%) de Irán. En cuanto a la base de datos, se destacó Web of Science con nueve (75%) producciones científicas. Conclusión: Se concluye que el uso del yoga como tratamiento en personas con Trastorno del Espectro Autista es todavía un tema que requiere estudios en muchos países. Os termos de busca foram selecionados a partir da consulta aos Descritores em Ciências em Saúde (Decs), “Yoga”, “Transtorno artístico” e “Transtorno do Espectro Autista”, bem como os termos não controlados do autismo e autismo infantil. Foram incluídos artigos publicados em português, inglês e espanhol no período de 2009 a 2019 disponibilizados na íntegra. Resultado: Os doze artigos que responderam aos critérios de inclusão propostos, foram publicados entre os anos de 2010 e 2019, destacando-se o ano de 2019 (33 %). Em relação à origem dos artigos, seis (50%) publicações são dos EUA, cinco (42%) da Índia e uma (8 %) do Irã. Em relação à base de dados, a Web of Science destacou-se com nove (75%) produções científicas. Conclusão: Conclui-se que o uso da yoga como tratamento em indivíduos com Transtorno do Espectro Autista ainda é um assunto que requer estudos em muitos países.
