The importance of outpatient unit in the diagnosis and treatment of HIV

Resumo: The prevalence of HIV infection remains high in the world and individuals with the virus receive care at the Specialized Care Service for HIV/AIDS, provided by the Unified Health System. Thus, the present study aimed to carry out a review, in order to demonstrate the routine and methodologies used by outpatient units specializing in diagnosing and treating patients with HIV. For this, an integrative review was carried out, with inclusion criteria that covered articles published between the years 2018 and 2022, in Portuguese and English. Fourteen scientific articles were selected, in addition to dissertations and manuals from the Ministry of Health for the elaboration of the results. The data revealed that the outpatient units are responsible for the reception and medication adherence of patients. Antiretroviral therapy, when used properly, reduces the amount of viral in the blood, resulting in the prevention of opportunistic diseases, providing the patient with well-being and quality of life. It is concluded, then, about the importance of these units in the scope of public health, both in the prevention and in the therapeutic treatment of the HIV virus, with the intention of attenuating its transmission.

Por lo tanto, el presente estudio tuvo como objetivo realizar una revisión, con el fin de demostrar la rutina y las metodologías utilizadas por las unidades de consulta externa especializadas en el diagnóstico y tratamiento de pacientes con VIH. Para ello, se realizó una revisión integradora, con criterios de inclusión que abarcó artículos publicados entre los años 2018 y 2022, en portugués e inglés. Se seleccionaron catorce artículos científicos, además de disertaciones y manuales del Ministerio de Salud para la elaboración de los resultados. Los datos revelaron que las unidades de consulta externa son responsables por la recepción y adherencia a la medicación de los pacientes. La terapia antirretroviral, cuando se usa adecuadamente, reduce la cantidad de virus en la sangre, lo que resulta en la prevención de enfermedades oportunistas, proporcionando al paciente bienestar y calidad de vida. Se concluye, entonces, sobre la importancia de estas unidades en el ámbito de la salud pública, tanto en la prevención como en el tratamiento terapéutico del virus VIH, con la intención de atenuar su transmisión.A prevalência da infecção pelo HIV continua alta no mundo e os indivíduos portadores do vírus recebem acolhimento no Serviço de Atenção Especializada para HIV/AIDS, fornecido pelo Sistema Único de Saúde. Com isso, o presente estudo teve por objetivo realizar uma revisão, no intuito de demonstrar a rotina e as metodologias utilizadas pelas unidades ambulatoriais especializas em diagnosticar e tratar pacientes com HIV. Para isso, foi realizada revisão integrativa, com critérios de inclusão que abrangeram artigos publicados entre os anos de 2018 e 2022, em idioma português e inglês. Foram selecionados 14 artigos científicos, além de dissertações e manuais do Ministério da Saúde para elaboração dos resultados. Os dados revelaram as unidades ambulatoriais são responsáveis pelo acolhimento e adesão medicamentosa dos pacientes. A terapia antirretroviral, quando utilizada adequadamente, reduz a quantidade viral no sangue, resultando na prevenção de doenças oportunistas, proporcionando ao portador bem-estar e qualidade de vida.
