Evaluation of the operating system of a storage unit for drying silos and the quality of rice grains

Resumo: The guarantee of standardization and quality of rice grains is due to good post-harvest practices. Thus, the objective of the work was to evaluate the operational performance and the quality of rice grains stored in drying silos. The work was carried out in a storage unit made up of five drying silos. In the first stage, rice husks with different masses and heights were stored, analyzing air movement and temperature. Then, the movement of air within the grain mass was evaluated for different screening processes. Then, rice samples were collected at eleven different points for physical analysis of the grains. Thus, variations in heights and the way in which the grain mass is processed influenced the static pressure and the performance of dryer silos, reducing the work capacity and interfering with the quality of the grains. The drying efficiency of rice grains was inversely proportional to the increase in static pressure, showing incomplete drying in the upper layers. The screening operation contributed to the reduction of impurities and improved the distribution of the static pressure of the grain layers, favoring the movement of the air. The lots of rice grains not re-sieved showed the formation of air passage corridors, impairing the drying and the quality of the grains. It was concluded, for the silo dryer system to have operational efficiency, it is essential to homogenize the water content of the grains, to totally eliminate impurities and foreign matter through sifting routines.

Por lo tanto, el objetivo del trabajo fue evaluar el rendimiento operativo y la calidad de los granos de arroz almacenados en silos de secado. El trabajo se realizó en una unidad de almacenamiento compuesta por cinco silos de secado. En la primera etapa, se almacenaron cáscaras de arroz con diferentes masas y alturas, analizando el movimiento del aire y la temperatura. Luego, se evaluó el movimiento del aire dentro de la masa de grano para diferentes procesos de selección. Luego, se recolectaron muestras de arroz en once puntos diferentes para el análisis físico de los granos. Por lo tanto, las variaciones en las alturas y la forma en que se procesa la masa de grano influyeron en la presión estática y el rendimiento de los silos de secado, reduciendo la capacidad de trabajo e interfiriendo con la calidad de los granos. La eficiencia de secado de los granos de arroz fue inversamente proporcional al aumento de la presión estática, mostrando un secado incompleto en las capas superiores. La operación de cribado contribuyó a la reducción de impurezas y mejoró la distribución de la presión estática de las capas de grano, favoreciendo el movimiento del aire. Los lotes de granos de arroz que no se volvieron a tamizar mostraron la formación de corredores de paso de aire, perjudicando el secado y la calidad de los granos. Se concluyó que, para que el sistema de secador de silos tenga eficiencia operativa, es esencial homogeneizar el contenido de agua de los granos, para eliminar por completo las impurezas y la materia extraña mediante las rutinas de tamizado.A garantia da padronização e qualidade dos grãos de arroz se devem às boas práticas de pós-colheita. Assim, o objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o desempenho operacional e a qualidade de grãos de arroz armazenados em silos secadores. O trabalho foi realizado numa unidade armazenadora composta por cinco silos secadores. Na primeira etapa, foram armazenados grãos de arroz em casca, com diferentes massas e alturas, analisando a movimentação de ar e a temperatura. Na sequência, avaliou-se a movimentação do ar no interior da massa de grãos para diferentes processos de peneiramento. Logo, realizou-se a coleta das amostras de arroz em onze diferentes pontos, para análise física dos grãos. Assim, as variações das alturas e a forma de processamento da massa de grãos influenciaram na pressão estática e no desempenho silos secador, reduzindo a capacidade de trabalho e interferindo na qualidade dos grãos. A eficiência da secagem dos grãos de arroz foi inversamente proporcional ao aumento da pressão estática, evidenciando secagem incompleta nas camadas superiores. A operação de peneiramento contribuiu na redução de impurezas e melhorou a distribuição da pressão estática das camadas de grãos, favorecendo a movimentação do ar. Os lotes de grãos de arroz não repeneirados apresentaram a formação de corredores de passagem de ar, prejudicando a secagem e a qualidade dos grãos.
