Lean methodology in the reduction and prevention of falls in patient rooms

Resumo: Objective: to report the creation and implementation of preventive actions to reduce falls in an inpatient unit of a private hospital in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Method: this is an experience report on the implementation of reduction and prevention of falls in patient rooms using Lean Healthcare methodology. Results: the creation of a team and a visual panel for a multidisciplinary team based on the Lean Healthcare methodology made it possible to identify the most critical patients for falls and reduced the risks by 30% in the current year and 0% of falls of companions. In addition, this strategy made it possible to remind companions of the need to ask for help in mobilizing bedridden patients. Final considerations: using the Lean Healthcare methodology in the prevention of falls was effective in the actions developed, improving the quality of care, allowing to intervene effectively and enhance patient safety.

Resultados: la creación de un equipo y un panel visual para un equipo multidisciplinario basado en la metodología Lean Healthcare permitió identificar a los pacientes más críticos por caídas y redujo los riesgos en un 30% en el presente año y 0% de caídas de acompañantes . Además, esta estrategia permitió recordar a los acompañantes la necesidad de pedir ayuda para movilizar a los pacientes encamados. Consideraciones finales: el uso de la metodología Lean Healthcare en la prevención de caídas fue efectivo en las acciones desarrolladas, mejorando la calidad de la atención, permitiendo intervenir con eficacia y potenciar la seguridad del paciente.Objetivo: relatar a criação e a implementação de ações preventivas para redução de quedas em uma unidade de internação de um hospital privado do estado do Rio de Janeiro. Método: trata-se de um relato de experiência sobre a implementação da redução e prevenção de quedas em quartos de pacientes utilizando metodologia Lean Healthcare. Resultados: a criação de uma equipe e um painel visual para equipe multiprofissional como base na metodologia Lean Healthcare possibilitou a identificação dos pacientes de maior criticidade para quedas e reduziu os riscos em 30% no ano vigente e 0% de quedas de acompanhantes. Ademais, esta estratégia possibilitou lembrar aos acompanhantes quanto à necessidade de solicitar auxílio para a mobilização dos pacientes acamados.
