The importance of Health Literacy in Primary Care: integrative literature review

Resumo: Objective: to discuss, based on scientific evidence, the application and functionality of literacy in Primary Care, aiming to clearly present the development of patients, presenting the factors that make this practice so important and vector of changes in the population's health. Method: This is an integrative literature review carried out in the SCIELO, LILACS, BDENF and PUBMED (MEDLINE) databases, carried out between March and September 2021 with the descriptors Health Literacy, Primary Health Care and Health Education. The articles selected for analysis and interpretation had as criteria: original articles, published in Portuguese, English and Spanish, available free of charge, that addressed Literacy in Health and Primary Care, and that are related to the objective of this work. The exclusion criteria were: integrative literature review articles, publications prior to 2016, articles in other languages, and those that were not related to the proposed topic. 10 articles were selected, from the SCIELO and PUBMED (MEDLINE) database. Results and discussion: After analyzing the articles, the following topics were found for discussion: Literacy as a social determinant of population health; Health Literacy in Primary Care; and Development of Health Literacy. Conclusion: Inadequate health literacy can contribute to health problems and diseases of the population, and its recognition is relevant for the establishment of strategies and actions aimed at better results in the production of care.

Método: Se trata de una revisión integradora de la literatura realizada en las bases de datos SCIELO, LILACS, BDENF y PUBMED (MEDLINE), realizada entre marzo y septiembre de 2021 con los descriptores Health Literacy, Primary Health Care y Health Education. Los artículos seleccionados para el análisis y la interpretación tuvieron como criterio: artículos originales, publicados en portugués, inglés y español, disponibles en forma gratuita, que abordaran la Alfabetización en Salud y Atención Primaria, y que se relacionen con el objetivo de este trabajo. Los criterios de exclusión fueron: artículos de revisión integradora de la literatura, publicaciones anteriores a 2016, artículos en otros idiomas y aquellos que no tuvieran relación con el tema propuesto. Se seleccionaron 10 artículos de la base de datos SCIELO y PUBMED (MEDLINE). Resultados y discusión: Luego de analizar los artículos, se encontraron los siguientes temas de discusión: La alfabetización como determinante social de la salud de la población; Alfabetización sanitaria en la atención primaria; y Desarrollo de la Alfabetización en Salud. Conclusión: Una inadecuada alfabetización en salud puede contribuir a problemas de salud y enfermedades de la población, y su reconocimiento es relevante para el establecimiento de estrategias y acciones encaminadas a mejores resultados en la producción de cuidados.Objetivo: discutir, com base em evidencias cientificas, aplicação e funcionalidade do letramento na Atenção Primária, visando apresentar de forma clara o desenvolvimento dos pacientes, apresentando os fatores que tornam essa prática tão importante e vetor de mudanças na saúde da população. Método: Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa da literatura realizada nas bases de dados SCIELO, LILACS, BDENF e PUBMED (MEDLINE), realizada entre março e setembro de 2021 com os descritores Letramento em Saúde, Atenção Primária à Saúde e Educação em Saúde. Os artigos selecionados para análise e interpretação tinham como critérios: artigos originais, publicados no idioma português, inglês e espanhol, disponibilizados gratuitamente, que abordassem o Letramento em Saúde e Atenção Primária, e que tenham relação com o objetivo desse trabalho. Já os critérios de exclusão foram: artigos de revisão de integrativa da literatura, publicações anteriores a 2016, artigos em outros idiomas, e aqueles que não estavam relacionados ao tema proposto.. Resultados e discussão: Após a análise dos artigos foram encontrados os seguintes temas para discussão: Letramento como um determinante social de saúde da população; Letramento em Saúde na Atenção Primária; e Desenvolvimento do Letramento em Saúde.
