Difficulties of teaching and learning of Statistics: a comparison of data from Peru and Brazil between the years of 2009 and 2017

Resumo: This investigation is a preliminary study that compares the difficulties that arise while teaching and learning statistics (from basics to college level) in Peru and Brazil throughout the years of 2009 and 2017. The data for Peru was compiled with base on: universities' thesis and journal repositories; the data for Brazil was gathered from one of the oldest magazines in the country (Boletim de Educação Matemática – BOLEMA - UNESP- Rio Claro), along with another prestigious magazine (Revista Educação Matemática Pesquisa - PUC-SP). The results indicate great similarities and few differences in the difficulties presented by students, both in a basic and college level, and graduated professionals as well as in training. From these results we were able to see a necessity for statistical didactic knowledge in the formation of teachers so that the proper teaching method can develop statistical thinking in students.

Para el caso de Perú, se hizo una revisión en las principales bases de datos tales como: repositórios de tesis y revistas académicas de universidades; para el caso de Brasil, se consideraron dos de las más antiguas revistas de Brasil: Boletim de Educação Matemática – BOLEMA (UNESP- Rio Claro) y la Revista Educação Matemática Pesquisa (PUC-SP). Los resultado indican bastante similitud y pocas diferencias en las dificultades tanto de alumnos de nível básico y universitário como de docentes em activo y en formación para la enseñanza del nível básico.  De estos resultados se ve la necessidad del conocimiento didático estadístico en la formación de docentes para la enseñanza idónea en la que se desarrolle el pensamento estadístico de los estudiantes.Esta pesquisa apresenta um estudo inicial de comparação entre as dificuldades no ensino e aprendizagem de estatística (níveis básico e universitário) entre os países do Peru e do Brasil entre os anos de 2009 e 2017. No caso do Peru, foi feita uma revisão no principal bases de dados como: repositórios de teses e periódicos acadêmicos de universidades; No caso do Brasil, foram consideradas duas das revistas mais antigas do Brasil: Boletim de Educação Matemática - BOLEMA (UNESP- Rio Claro) e a Revista Educação Matemática Pesquisa (PUC-SP). Os resultados indicam bastante semelhança e poucas diferenças nas dificuldades dos alunos do nível básico e universitário, bem como dos professores ativos e em formação para a docência no nível básico.
