Resumo: | Squamous cell carcionama (SCC) is a malignat neoplasm of epithelial origin that can affect the entire upper digestive and airways, from the oral cavity to the end of the oropharyngeal region. The dentist plays a major role in preventing oral cancer, especially when acting at the levels of primary and secondary prevention, by proposing actions that facilitate the recognition of individuals belonging to the risk group and by performing practices thet seek to diagnose injuries early suspicions. Objective: Report a case of squamous cell carcinoma, highligting the role of the dentist in the early diagnosis of the lesion and during cancer treatment. Case report: A 64-year-old female pactient, melanoderma, attended to the Dentistry Clinic of the Federal University of Ceará - Campus Sobral, with the main complaint of discomfort caused by prosthesis. The intraoral clinical examination revealed a nodular lesion with erythroleucoplastic color and fibrous consistency, located on the soft palate, measuring about 3 cm in diameter. Final considerations: The early diagnosis of oral cancer can provide an adequate therapeutic management and, consequently, a better prognosis. |

El odontólogo juega un papel primordial en la prevención del cáncer bucal, especialmente cuando actúa en los niveles de prevención primaria y secundaria, proponiendo acciones que faciliten el reconocimiento de las personas pertenecientes al grupo de riesgo y realizando prácticas que buscan diagnosticar las lesiones en estadio precoz. Objetivo: reportar un caso de CEC, destacando el papel del odontólogo en el diagnóstico precoz de la lesión y durante el tratamiento del cáncer. Caso clínico: Paciente de sexo femenino, melanoderma, 64 años, que acudió al ambulatorio de la Clínica Odontologica de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad Federal de Ceará Campus Sobral, con el principal síntoma de malestar de la prótesis. El examen clínico intraoral reveló una lesión nodular, de color eritroleucoplásica, de consistencia fibrosa, localizada en el paladar blando, de unos 3 cm de diámetro. Consideraciones finales: el diagnóstico precoz del cáncer bucal puede orientar un adecuado manejo terapéutico y, en consecuencia, promover un pronóstico favorable.O carcinoma de células escamosas (CEC) é uma neoplasia maligna de origem epitelial que pode acometer toda as vias áreas e digestivas superiores, desde a cavidade oral até o final da região orofaríngea. O cirurgião-dentista exerce um papel primordial na prevenção do câncer de boca, principalmente quando atua nos níveis de prevenção primária e secundária, ao propor ações que facilitem o reconhecimento dos indivíduos pertencentes ao grupo de risco e ao realizar práticas que busquem diagnosticar precocemente as lesões suspeitas. Objetivo: relatar um caso de carcinoma de células escamosas, destacando o papel do cirurgião-dentista no diagnóstico precoce da lesão e durante o tratamento oncológico. Relato de caso: Paciente do sexo feminino, melanoderma, 64 anos, compareceu ao ambulatório de Clínica Odontológica da Faculdade de Odontologia da Universidade Federal do Ceará Campus Sobral, com a queixa principal de incomodo da prótese. O exame clínico intraoral revelou uma lesão nodular, coloração eritroleucoplásica, consistência fibrosa, localizada no palato mole, medindo cerca de 3 cm em seu diâmetro.
