Resumo: This paper aims to understand how the rebel's motivations for the rebellion of 1842, the fight against the “two bloody laws,” were presented to the political bases that intended to mobilize in the province of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The sources are mainly the newspapers of Minas Gerais, which protagonist the motivation of rebellion, highlighting O Universal. The situationist newspaper O Correio de Minas has also been thoroughly studied, along with O Astro de Minas, A Ordem, and the Maiorista. The article treats the “two blood laws” - the recreation of the Council of State and the reform of the Process Code - then analyses how the opposition press-related these two laws to the interests of its different readers.

As fontes, além das próprias leis, são principalmente os periódicos mineiros que protagonizaram a motivação da rebelião, com destaque para O Universal. Mas também foi minuciosamente estudada a folha situacionista, O Correio de Minas, e outras folhas como o Astro de Minas e A Ordem. Também foi estudado o Maiorista, do Rio de Janeiro.
