Resumo: In this article, we analyze the approximation between culture and school in the process of training basic education students and aim to understand how local cultural heritage can participate in this process. We carried out a qualitative exploratory research, and also state of knowledge about the Heritage and Artistic Education project - EPA in Bahia schools, as a result we contacted that with pedagogical intention it is possible for students of basic education to recognize themselves as participants in the construction of heritage and local memories through these cultural policies promoted and established by SEC/BA. The EPA Project is a possibility for studying cultural heritage formalized by the State, but which can be adapted by educators for teaching – learning about the local cultural heritage. It can be an initiative for students to carry out research and learn about local, Bahian and Brazilian history, culture, heritage and memories. Thus, it is up to schools and teachers to enjoy their autonomy and with creativity, reflection and criticality improve these methodologies and adapt to the local reality.
