Resumo: In this paper, a reading proposal is discussed in the defense that Freirean ideas are still necessary and his vision has relevant contributions even for the reading of literature in a foreign language. Paulo Freire's problematizing education points to a dialogic reading approach that aims at an autonomous reader, as part of the reading process, and the teacher as a mediator of this process, in the construction of the meanings made possible by the text, also literary. Bibliographic research is used and, by showing the convergences between Bakhtin's concepts and Freire's thought, it is proposed that reading is meeting the Other, it is (re)constructing languages, it is knowing oneself to be part of a whole, of a culture that seemed unrelated, but that defines the "I" as a subject in the world. That is, in the approximation between a Bakhtinian philosophy of language and a Freirean pedagogical theory, the place of literature in social relations is understood; consequently, the teaching-learning process of reading literature in another language should be carried out from the perspective of the social dimension of language. Mediate the reading of literary narratives in a foreign language is build bridges between the student's culture and the culture that is systematically taught, using reading strategies, developing the curiosity that Freire talks about, promoting dialogue between the way of seeing the world and the window of possibilities that opens in the understanding of/by the literary narrative. Finally, the dialogic of this approach is also present in the construction of alterity, that is, an identity marked by the other.
