Resumo: Since the 1990s, the number of young people completing basic education in Brazil has been increasing. However, facts such as school dropout, grade failures and, in many cases, entry into the job market contribute to the fact that part of the youth is unable to complete the basic level, especially at the high school stage. This article aims to make a compelled analysis of how work may have influenced the completion of basic education by young people who used the Enem to obtain high school certification and enter higher education. The article used as a methodology the collection of data through an online questionnaire answered by 29 young people and individual semi-structured interviews with seven young people who responded to this questionnaire. The research concludes that the frequency in the job market was present in most of the trajectories of the young people interviewed, mainly informal work. In addition, it was possible to note that just as work can be largely responsible for dropping out of school, it can also influence the pursuit of school completion by these young people.
