The propose of electrical system distribution planning is to supply the customer load growth, determining the best alternatives for system expansion. The significant amounts involved make wrong decisions represent a very high cost for companies. To maintain the economic and financial balance, companies of electricity have sought solutions to reduce the significant amounts of money involved in the expansion of the distribution system, and to ensure good technical conditions and maintain the quality of services given to the standards and criteria established by the regulatory agency. Searching an optimal solution, the planner of the distribution system should use computational tools that aid in the indication of the best alternatives. The propose of this work is to develop an automated tool that allows the planner to choose the best option for investment, from a technical and economical viewpoint, to expand the electrical distribution system. This dissertation proposes a simple methodology, using the technique of depth-first search. The algorithm developed in this paper shows quickness in proposing optimal solution for the planning system, and allows flexibility in providing information for decision making, enabling the verification of the greatest possible number of alternatives by the planner.
