The modernization process of the brazilian theater and the artistic proposal of Luigi Pirandello: exchanges between Brazil and Italy

Resumo: This article has as assumption to address some common questionings about the process of receiving the Italian playwright Luigi Pirandello in Brazil. Therefore, we focus on the period of the first professional scenarios of texts by the playwright in Brazil, in order to reflect how the first interpretations on Pirandello among us were built. In this context, we highlight the academic and artistic discussions about the modernization of Brazilian arts. In the case of theatre, this action takes nothing despicable and influences strongly the reading and the staging of foreign dramatists, including Pirandello. In light of these issues, we will reflect on the convergences between the Brazilian and the Italian theater.

Para tanto, focamos o período das primeiras encenações profissionais de textos do dramaturgo no Brasil, buscando refletir sobre a forma como foram construídas as primeiras interpretações sobre Pirandello entre nós. Nesse contexto, destacam-se no meio acadêmico e artístico as discussões em torno da modernização das artes brasileiras.
